The strobe lights cast the house in shades of hue as the fog drifted above the entrance, swallowing the door and making it seem even more sinister. The dilapidated house was black, with all the windows broken as the shingles from the roof littered the yard. A tree sat dead in the front yard, without a leaf on its skeletal branches. The grass was dead, browning from the harsh autumn temperatures, and haunting music played deep inside the house.
Millie stepped toward the path leading to the open front door; as her breath billowed in a smoky cloud, she rubbed her bare arms, cursing herself for forgetting to bring a jacket on this chilly night. It was Halloween, and while all the kids were out trick-or-treating with their families, Millie ventured away from the monotony of the usual plans and decided to visit Covington House.
Covington House was a notoriously haunted place that had long since been abandoned and forgotten, left to rot and decay with time. However, every year on Halloween, it would come alive with the promise of fear and fun. The locals, ashamed of the decrepit house, demanded it be torn down, but the proposal would never go through, and Convington House continued to stand year after year. No one knows who hosted the haunted house, but it never stopped the growing crowd of curious teens and visitors alike. The crowds had dwindled on this night, and Millie was standing alone, determined to face her fears.
As the wind howled and the full moon blasted its luminous light down below, Millie inched closer to the creepy old house. Finally, she took those final three steps and entered inside, welcomed by shadows dancing on the walls like demons from Hell. The music shook the walls and rocked the rotted old floorboards as she stepped carefully, afraid she might fall into the unknown world below.
Old Victorian photos plastered the decaying walls, greeted with peeling green wallpaper and giant holes. Millie walked through the foyer and noticed the flickering lights of the ancient chandelier just above her head, barely hanging on by a thread. As she ventured further into the house, it became darker as if someone had snuffed the life out of this place years ago. Millie noticed she was the only person inside and felt an eerie sense of being watched as she walked deeper into the bowels of the house. Her heart began to race as adrenaline kicked in, and her fight or flight anxiety was shouting at her to run back the way she came, but Millie continued forward, determined to face her fears.
In the distance came a soul-piercing scream, followed by the sound of a chainsaw. She took a deep breath and pushed through, walking down the dark hallway, noticing movement on the other side of the decaying walls. Millie stopped and peered through one of the holes, looking for the source of the movement, when suddenly, two piercing red eyes stared back at her, causing Millie to scream and take off running down the hallway. As Millie reached the end of the hallway, her only option was to go up the stairs, though several steps were missing. She climbed the steps as fast as she could without falling through the boards and reached the top of the second floor.
At the top of the steps, she noticed the floor was coated in a thick red liquid. She dipped her finger in the substance and realized it was blood; the metallic smell overtook her senses as she was about to turn back and run for the hills, a hot breath formed on the back of Millie's neck. She could hear the deep and painful breathing of someone standing behind her, but she was too afraid to turn around, so she took off towards the first room she could find to lock herself inside. Millie raced inside the bedroom and shut the door, finding the lock broken. She searched high and low for anything that could be used as a weapon, but only found the lamp on the bedside table. It was brass and heavy, but Millie held it with conviction, prepared for whoever might come inside after her.
Just then, the door slammed against the wall, making the room shake and Millie scream. Frozen in fear, she dropped the lamp, unable to move as the assailant glided across the room in three straightforward strides. He was tall and broad, wearing a blue jumpsuit, and immediately she thought of Michael Myers. The man grabbed her, one hand over her mouth and the other across her waist, hauling her out of the room backward as Millie kicked and struggled against him. Millie did everything in her power to escape the death grip this man had on her, but it was no use. The more she struggled, the tighter the grip became until she was being dragged around upstairs like a rag doll to another room down the hall.
The man pushed through the doorway and threw Millie down on the ground. Her shirt was tattered and ripped from the struggle. She was bruised and bleeding from her nose, cuts adorning her legs from where he had dragged her against the rotting and rough wood floors. Millie screamed and kicked, but it was no use; the man backhanded her across the face, knocking her unconscious.
When Millie awoke, she was handcuffed with her arms above her head to a chain that protruded from the ceiling. It was damp in here as the smell of mildew filled her nostrils. She squinted into the darkness, unable to see much in front of her, but could hear the screams of others not too far off in the distance. Suddenly, the sound of a chainsaw was revving right next to her, and Millie began to scream and struggle against the chain once again. The man wielding the chainsaw was in a red jumpsuit and a creepy clown mask, inching closer to Millie, waving the tool in front of her almost like a taunt. The man dressed like Michael Myers came into view, holding a butcher knife under her chin, forcing her to look him in the eyes.
"Any last words?" Michael Myers asked her.
"Why are you doing this?" Millie cried out.
"Because it's fun."
That was all the man said before he drove the butcher knife straight into Millie's chest.
The clown-masked assailant raised the chainsaw above his head and laughed maniacally, cutting through Millie's lower limbs as easily as cutting through a steak at a restaurant. Blood squirted everywhere, shooting out like a rocket, coating both men from head to toe. Millie screamed one last time before her heart finally stopped beating from the trauma, and her body hung lifelessly against the chain above her.
"Who's next?" Michael Myers asked.
"Let's go find out." The clown man said.
Together, they left the room and closed the door behind them, leaving Millie alone and lifeless.
