The projects are always so stupid. But if the teachers are going to make me do this, I will do it my way in finding my partner. I began circling the classroom, looking at students and teachers alike. I saw one boy. He had a huge dopey smile on his face, red hair and bright freckles. It purred nicely with his green eyes. He looks like an absolute idiot. I sighed and headed over to the next desk. Twins. Both were rather quiet with one another and looked freakishly alike. Aside for the fact that one of them was a boy and the other one was a girl. They seem rather smart. Wait, what's that in their hands? I walked past the boy’s shoulder and looked down. They were reading, at a time like this?
I watched as a girl circled the classroom, looking like a shark sent in blood in the water. What's with this girl? I saw her gaze rest upon my face for a moment before she turned away, as if deciding I'm not for her. Ouch, that hurts. I watched her turn to the next group of desks near me. Oh, the twins. I shrugged. They're nothing too special. I wonder why she picks them over me. Regardless, I continued to watch her as she circled them. She seemed intrigued by the book they were holding. Why was she staring at that book? It's nothing special. Just physics or something.
Me and my brother sat quietly. We heard the chaos of everyone. Something about a group project. Aries sighed beside me.
“I don't understand why they keep trying to put us with other people. We're the smartest minds. We don't need anyone else. Or find alone or together. Though we prefer together.” I nodded my head, sighing as well.
“They do it so that they can even out the grades, pairing the strongest minds with the weakest minds. To see who can complete the most and if the weakest minds will help the stronger minds, or if the stronger minds will do it all. It's a human social experiment.” I explained, shrugging as we continued reading. I flipped the page. Aries settled in silence beside me as we continued reading. It wasn't because we chose to remain silent afterwards. It was because someone was listening in and I do so hate when someone sticks their nose in another person's business.
I managed a small glance behind us as someone stepped towards us, thinking they were clever and silent in their approach. It was a brunette. She must have been trying to find someone intelligent to pair with for this group. I've seen her grades on tests before. She's not a weaker mind, nor is she a rather strong mind. She must be looking for someone who can either pair her with her or challenge her to do better. I glanced to my younger twin, Aeris. She seemed to either not pay attention or choose not to notice. I gave a dramatic sigh and turned to our approaching intruder.
“I don't know what it is you're looking for, but sticking your nose in our book is not kind. It is better to announce yourself.” The girl looked at me in surprise, as if she hadn't expected me to notice her with her mouth breathing. She glanced around, and I sighed. Maybe we shouldn't partner with her after all, she seems to be too aloof. “Yes, I'm talking to you. Do you see anyone else around to talk to?”
“Why yes, there's someone sitting right next to you for that, I believe they're called a sibling.” The girl had sass. And Audacity. Perhaps the wit with her words makes up for the lack of brains.
It's with him? He's so rude for no reason. I crossed my arms over my chest. And proceeded to continue reading over his shoulder to the book. He seemed to take that offensively. As I'd hoped so.
“Do you mind? This isn't your book to read.” The boy hissed. I chose not to respond, continuing to read the book. Until a mass of large words, so big I couldn't comprehend made me have to take a step back and look to the two.
“What's this book about? I can't understand it. What are all these big words?” The boy rolled his eyes at me and the girl finally looked up and met my gaze. She had a smile that from the outside could look kind, but as close as I was, it looked condescending.
“It's a very complicated form of science and math, also known as physics.” I stared at the two for a minute.
“You're lying,” I declared. “No one else is supposed to be reading about that sort of thing. It's saved for high school!” Then it struck me. Why these two are so unordinary? They look so uncannily similar, and they keep to themselves so much, which is why I haven't seen them. These two are not normal.
I'm not very sure what I've just seen, but from what I understand, the girl who was scouting for partners in the group project has chosen the twins. She didn't speak to them very much, but they both, but all three of them spent a lot of time at that book before she pulled back and asked a question about it. Now she looks uncertain on whether or not she could truly partner with them.
What a peculiar girl. Choosing two beings she cannot comprehend, nor can she dare measure up to.
My chuckle is under my breath and quietly began to stretch, keeping my eyes on the three of them. I watched her take a couple steps back. Her eyes wide as saucers. She looked like she'd just witnessed an ascension and didn't know if she should be mesmerized or terrified. I laughed softly. As I noticed, the teacher began to walk back into the room with a jar. I calmly jumped off the desk I was sitting upon and sat back in my chair.
“Well, students. It's time for you to pick.” The entire class groaned. I watched as the girl realized she had no choice in who she partnered with. And she could pick between me, the twins, or someone else completely. I must admit I am quite interested to see how this plays out.
I sighed softly and shut my eyes. They’re making us choose groups this way? I resigned myself, deciding so long as I get the same color as Aries, it might not be as terrible, that’s assuming, of course, that someone with a weaker intellectual mind isn’t paired with us. Though, they all have weaker minds all things considered, this is 6th grade, and we’ve already begun advanced geometry.
How boring. I rolled my eyes and Aeris shut the book. This was rather easy; we just choose each other and then no one else can be in our group.
“We’ll be doing this project in groups of 4. Everyone will grab a colored strip and those with the same strip will group together.” Well, so much for easy. Aeris sighed through her nose.
I decided then how we’d do this without having to bother with others. “We’ll wait and see what color this girl grabs.” I whispered to Aeris. She furrowed her brow at me. The girl? Why? I shrugged. “She’s smarter than I gave her, I want to see if she can actually complete this project without us being bored to bits.
The first name called was the name of the brunette’s, Alice Hawthorne. And even though she did in fact attempt hiding the strip of color she got, she received a purple strip. Having that kept in mind, the twins went to next. Aeris and Aries Gardener. They both pulled out a purple strip as well. As children continued to be called going up and pulling out their strip. It seemed the entire rainbow, and more was revealed from the jar. It was nearly unbelievable how many colors had been revealed. Lastly as the red-haired boy, Charles Wolff went out. He pulled out an identical purple strip to the twins and Alice.
This was going to be quite the interesting project.
