Ever Felt Like You were the Only One

Written in response to: "Write a story that includes the line “Did anyone else see that?” or "Who’s there?”"

Adventure Fiction Mystery

"Ever felt as though you were the only one who saw something, or you noticed something, that no one else saw or noticed?" "Hey, happens to the best of us and makes me wonder when this happens, was what I saw only meant to be seen by me?"

We look at the person staring back at us in the mirror, catch a glimpse of the present or possibly our own future, not sure what to make out about the whole picture we see. It can be unnerving when we catch a passing glance into that which is considered untouchable.

"Do you ever catch yourself talking in full sentences or complete gibberish is being spoken, like you are holding a conversation with an invisible person, or only someone you are able to see?" "Do you think you are alone in the room when you start to share things with the individual that is like an imaginary friend you had when you were younger?"

"Does this person, who seems real to you, carry on with you into adulthood?" "And when you are half asleep and you hear a noise, do you shout out, "Who's there?" "Hoping you will get a response that all those within earshot will turn to see what it was that made the noise or made its presence known?"

We want to be acknowledged and feel we are a part of the bigger picture. We want to belong to the very place that we reside in or that we frequent on a daily basis. "But how can we expect our lives to be like an episode of Cheers, where on there everyone knows you name, in real life no one knows your name much less you who you are or may be.

It's as if we have no control on finding an acceptable way to identify with who we are, we then fantasize about being another person or going further we want to attach ourselves to another person and become like Quantum Leap. As much as the idea of being someone else for even a minute, seems like it's harder than it appears.

Hollywood would have you believe in things that may or may not actually exist. The initial idea behind the reality and the fantasy are so blurred and the lines are more like medium strips in the middle of the road. It can feel like the risk are worth the opportunity. Yet, "How would it change or make the moment seem worth it in the long run?"

"Can becoming another, only to find out or discover that you screwed with the main reason you were meant to be here, by only finding out the one you became was no better off than when you were yourself originally."

You seek out ways to ease the frustration and pain, diving deeper into a rant of complaints and the shaking of fists at the sky, in hopes to appease and make them change the way things are going. You look for an excuse to change the things that are not really bad or wrong, to try and fix what is not nor ever was broken.

Then when you want to return to your present self, it is like being in Back to the Future II, where Marty chooses to purchase a book that would give him the heads up on all the sports scores on all wins and losses, only to find out with the books view into such sure fire winners, he changes the future and past (his past) completely in a hell fire nightmare.

From eliminating certain persons who are dear to him and making things become different either slightly or in whole. This is the outcome of all things never considered and things that are never looked at in a way that makes you think twice before taking a leap of faith blindly.

To look at and study the outcome of the whole picture in black and white, along with in color too, will allow us to see things as they would realistically not in fantasy. Being in a perfect world would never allow is to know things like making mistakes and making wrong decisions, so that the lessons learned will keep us on the straight and narrow, or at least make us think twice, before venturing forward.

We want others to notice or take notice, to hear words of their approval and to let us know if we are doing things correctly and right. To help to guide us along the path and journey we call or title Life.

We are not sure what to make of or explain that which is very real to us. We all need to be loved and need to be hugged and shown we matter in more ways than one.

To discover that no one noticed is very saddening. It makes us feel bad and unwanted. We reach out for hands to hold us and shake us up. Not hands to control us or grab us fiercely. We reach out for arms to hug us and hold us close, not to restrain us and prevent us from moving upward or forward.

We want to hear praise and approval, not negative and demeaning words that bite, hurting our confidence and our happiness.

We are only human, and we deserve the same things equally as everyone else. It is never about education or intellect or status or how we dress or where we live or work at. "The one who begins to feel less as a human being, will have given up and allowed others to control and be in charge of what they say, do, know, see, feel and can be a part of. No one has the right to ever have that much control over anyone. We already have one who does deserve that, and the same one deserve nothing less than gratitude and respect.

To think otherwise, is to be the biggest fool of all, beginning to believe that we are no better than the ones who rent space in our heads and feel they can mold us and make us do their bidding like a puppet master controlling wooden puppets.

The truth sometimes hurts worse but at least you were awake when you heard what you need to hear.
