Ghost of the Christmas Spirit Intern: Observant Much

Christmas Coming of Age Holiday

Written in response to: "Write a story from the POV of a ghost." as part of Ghost Stories.

Sorry but not sorry. I'm not easily convinced; not even one bit… Prove me wrong but there's simply no way that Ebenezer Scrooge himself has had a change of heart, turning a new leaf that quickly.

I mean sure, would you ever like to see a sweet child like Little Timmy to die under his condition? No one, I tell you that’s why! That little guy has a bright future ahead of him. However, that greedy man though. If he messes up, then surely that would be the downfall of two souls for one cause. A cause of a selfish man and his actions.

He’s so lucky that had gotten warning after warning all thanks to my associates, and they weren’t as skeptical as I was. He literally had 4 warnings from 4 individual ghosts, mind you! Maybe his old friend and business partner: Jacob Marley, was a bit skeptical as I am, but he became even more optimistic at the halfway point.

I could tell you how it all came to be from beginning to end, but I ain’t going to even bother ‘cause I’m sure it’s been told many times on how Scrooge had changed all in a night’s sleep thanks to Christmas Ghost Spirits over the eve of the holiday.

Oof, I was one of them, showing his errors and whatnot, I would rip him a new one. Ebenezer would be shaking in his slippers, and hiding his entire face through his nightcap. That’s how easily triggered I am with that pathetic excuse of a man. And he thought Ghost of Christmas Future was scary and all. Scrooge hasn’t met me. Not yet of what I am hoping. ‘Cause I won’t want to be in the same room as him or else I would do something uncharacteristic in my profession. I’m within the shadows of higher ups, such as my mentors and bosses, all of which I’ll get to.

I have been an intern for as long as I can remember. I couldn’t tell you the life I had before because it’s a bit hazy, but upon arrival, I was quickly welcomed by all of the ghosts in the Unrested Spirits of New Beginnings of USONB for short. That included the Christmas Ghost Spirits we all love and respect.

There are hundreds and hundreds of ghosts residing at the USONB. Besides the obvious and aforementioned Christmas ghosts, we got every holiday you can think of in our department. Either being from New Year’s to Valentine's to St. Patty’s to Easter to everything in between, all the way to Thanksgiving, and the other December holidays, such as Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. What ever holiday morals like to celebrate yearly, you got a team of ghost lined up for any services.

Our headquarters starts from the lowest layer of atmosphere of clouds: the troposphere and goes upward towards the Mesosphere!? It's a hauntingly beautiful, yet invisible to any living eyes, extremely tall towering citadel where all of us ghosts reside, and work for an after-living.

I have been assigned to help assist the Christmas Division. Throughout the time I have been here, I have been undergoing what it takes to be a Ghost of Christmas Spirit. From being an alertist, to bringing joy and laughter to someone in the dumps during Christmastime, we legitimately have the right ghost for the job. Thankfully anything that shoots across the sky, either that being a meteor or something from NASA, can phase us. The unfortunate part is that we get a little winded.

I have been very fortunate meeting every single of these spirits in this division. So much so, that I'm quite certain that I'll be promoted to a higher position. I could be any of the alertist like Mr. Marley or even Ghost of Christmas Future (who goes by the name of Anor.)

Or I could be like Ghost of Christmas Past showing the person of the individual they came to be. I'm sure Navin would gladly take me under his wing, despite the age difference. I'm only older than him by a few years.

Although Ghost of Christmas Present seems more up my alley if I'm quite frank. Ima the kind, gentle giantess has made it really conceivable with her profession. Under her time with Scrooge, I watched and took in everything while jotting down helpful notes. I applaud Ima for her calm demeanor and complete collective control. If it was me, I probably would have knocked more sense into Ebenezer. So much so, he probably would have liked to talk to HR about it.

Anyways, it's the day after Christmas and the whole USONB is taking time out of their busy schedule to see the outcome of my highups’ alertiness. We all had seen this at the main lobby’s 180° jumbotron. Scrooge didn't once take time to yield any of their warnings and skidaddle to make things right. I am still not won over; I just feel like this arse is going to go back to his old ways.

Not going to lie, it did warm my heart to see Little Timmy accepting Scrooge for who he is. God bless that child’s soul. He’s too precious, but even still, I can’t stop this knotting feeling in my stomach that something was awry. I simply can’t trust Ebenezer for the crap he has pulled and done unto others. He is not to be trusted by any means.

Once we saw that Little Timmy’s family accepted Scrooge, all of the ghosts, excluding I, cheered and applauded. The whole entire lobby was going crazy for this turn around outcome. After everyone had their fill of happy cheers, I went: “BOOO!”

The whole department automatically looked at me while grasping looks upon their faces. They couldn’t believe that one of their own didn’t agree with any of this. I’m sorry but I don’t follow a crowd, especially being more skeptical than all the rest.

I could see Navin, Ima, and Anor near me, giving me the same reaction as the sheepful herd. They knew my opinions of the matter, but were always brushing it off to the side.

Shortly afterwards, my boss came over and replied: “Prudent, I would like you to see you in my office, right now at this instant.” Oh boy, am I in trouble for speaking out my truthful opinion…
