Prompt: Write a story in which a character can taste, smell, hear, and/or feel color.
Roy-A Palette of Color
Hello citizens, of this magnificent world! My name is Roy G. Biv. I have come to save you from the gloominess and unhappiness that cloud your everyday lives. You have fallen victim to the bleak, drab, ashen villains of daily living. I will create smiles across your pallid faces. For those of you unfamiliar with me, I am a superhero of epic proportions. I paint the skies with rainbows of vividness and brilliance of color.
Look at me closely. My hair is wavy blue like the undulating ocean. My nose is bulbously huge and yellow like a light bulb. My eyebrows look like tiny furry rainbows of color. My eyes are green like the forest canopy. My cheeks are puffy and naturally red like delicious apples. I am garbed in an assortment of linens from afar. I am draped in billowy sails of cloth in a spectrum of hues, tints, tones, shades and fruits. Every imaginable color covering my body: (yes, even fruit), like mandarin orange, Bing cherry red, lavender purple, (I eat lavender), lemon yellow, watermelon green (too heavy to wear, smile). Unashamedly I wear fairy-like pixie boots with jingling bells to cover my feet. Could I easily be mistaken as a fairy or alien or even possibly a wingless angel? Let your minds run away with your impressions of me. I can say that the Creator has endowed me with special gifts.
Oh yes, I am a sight for “sore eyes” as some meanie weenies would say. Some misguided souls label me as just a clown. Alas, they accuse me of tomfoolery. But as I said my name is Roy. I am hard pressed to know anyone named Tom, unless it be you! What my critics fail to realize is that my actions are overflowing with a spectral array of colors that touch humankind in a loving way. I will show anyone the true key to joy, not just in the present but in the times to come. They tell me that I live outside the typical spectrum for sound mindfulness. My response is “Of course I do! I paint life with all sorts of colors from my rainbow spectrum.” Shaking their heads they affirm that I should be locked away in a sensory deprivation room with the key melted down. Little do they realize I could escape from it. Ha, ha!
I would agree with the dissenters that I was not cut from the “same cloth” as they are. I believe they are made of standard material. For example, wool is scratchy; cotton shrinks, and nylon is way too stretchy like their opinions of me. I consider myself a potpourri of all fabrics with silk and cashmere at the top of the list. One would not find this material at any bargain store. Certainly, everyone is unique and special. Nonetheless, I am endowed with the treasures of heaven: giddiness, lightheadedness, frivolity. Oops, I mean peace, happiness, meekness, kindness, patience, empathy, compassion, love and humor, which is my specialty.
I have been asked if I am a magician that can make things appear. I also have been asked if I am an oversized leprechaun that turns rainbows into jackpots of gold at the other end. Well disappointingly, I have to say I am neither one. Gotcha! I am a hybrid of them and even more.
Just as I had previously mentioned, my superhero talent is that I am a purveyor of emotional energy, support, humor and happiness. I consider myself a living human prism that ingests whiteness and separates it out into a vivid array of colors. How do I do this? For starters,
Rhyme away, rhyme away that’s how I play. My words flow out of me to add color to your day.
Yellow are the daffodils that grow in my garden bed. Enjoy their splendor because soon like us, they’ll all be dead.
Red are my roses and green is my front grass. Look at the beauty of them because a chill in the air will soon cause them to pass.
Look at the grandeur of my rainbows as they shimmer in the light of the sun. Rush to capture that vision before your life is completely done.
“Oh yes, my name is Roy G. Biv and I intend to absorb the bleakness of your day. I ease your wearisome mind as you hasten on your way.
Are you disappointed that my words are not enough to sugar coat your day with stunning images? Then let my colorful charades bring you good cheer and a happy smile.I can dazzle you with contortions and twists. No silly, not my body. Inhale, exhale, inhale exhale as I fill my long rubber tube inflatables with the air that keeps me alive. This is what I do best. Yes, you guessed it…Being a blowhard. Watch me closely for in a wink of an eye (well, maybe two), I twist and spin and stretch my creation into an animal that looks mystical and dreamy. In seconds I have created for you a pink elephant with a gas pump hose for a trunk. Now I shall prepare a purple unicorn. It’s truly one of a kind because it is only for you (unless your name is Tom). See how they move and pace about. But without warning see them “POP”.
My radar senses warn me you are still feeling blue. Perhaps you would like a family of inflatable butterflies with multicolored wings. I can command them to fly. Watch carefully as I propel them into the sky. They hiss when I release them to be free.
Tiny worms with beautiful wings fly away, fly away into the air. Scurry and hurry because you have become fodder for the birds to share.
Unfortunately, they are short lived and don’t make good pets. Oh well. For a moment they delighted us, but their quick departure left a bitter lime taste in my mouth. See, my tongue is now green. Yuck you say and I totally agree!
Now let me show one more thing before I must move on to other towns. Remember I have so many people to wash away their ugly frowns.
You pucker your face. I can tell you are ready to moan. If this doesn’t make you happy then your heart is made of stone.
Now jump into my pocket.
“What did you say? It’s not big enough?”
I say it most certainly is or my name isn’t (Roy) R (red) O (orange) Y (yellow) G.(green) BIV B (blue) I (indigo) V (violet). I am a man of all colors! I want you to know that colors hold the promise of something so special. They hold a special promise from our Creator.
Ok, now jump into this pocket. After you see what is in there, I have a second pocket for you to jump into.
And in the first one you will see a magnificent menagerie of animals and beasts entering into a huge boat, an ark. Together all will be safe as the heavens pour out rain from above. And when the rain has ended, you will witness a rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be the first sign of the covenant (promise) between God and all the creatures of the earth. (1)
This is the beginning of the endless joy which had been promised to us from the beginning of time. God manifests His promise through a rainbow In my second pocket you will find a rainbow even more spectacular than the first. My friend John saw this…
After these things I looked and behold, a door standing open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying, “Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this.”
Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne set in heaven, and the One, (Jesus) sat on the throne. And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald.
“I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.” (2)
And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely. (3)
God’s promise as shown from the rainbow is reflected on everyone’s face. Hold fast to His truth colored in Jesus’ mercy and saving grave.
He is risen!
