“Good morning, my love.” He quietly announces pressing feather light kisses to my cheeks, my nose, my brow. I smile, remembering last night. I sang to the top of my lungs, danced around with my friends, and swayed in the arms of the love of my life.

I slowly blink my eyes open finding the dark emerald gaze that held mine the day before, promising to love me, cherish me, protect me. For time and all eternity. I reached up slowly, gently tracing the veins in my husband’s arm. My husband, I thought. “Good morning,” I smile tracing over his shoulder, to his collarbone, to his neck, to the stubble along his jaw. He sighs, his breath warming my face and gently pushing a wisp of hair away from my face. The smell of mint clings to the air and I squint at the man above me.

“Did you brush your teeth before you woke me up?” I ask smirking

“No,”

He sits up, gently putting some of his weight onto my hips and I close my eyes while my body reacts to the movement, remembering everything from last night. When I open my eyes again I see him now smirking at me and he continues to lower his hips into mine slowly sliding back and taking a seat between my now parted legs. His knees move between to lift my thighs off the mattress to rest on his and his hands grip my hips and slowly massaging their way farther back. “My brother thought of everything for us.” He says and motions over to the bedside table. I don’t look, not wanting to break sight of the man who is enjoying watching my reactions to him simply existing.

He smiles and brings a finger to my chin and gently pushes it to the side and presses a long kiss to the bottom of my ear, trailing down to my shoulder and back up again. My hand reaches up and I thread my fingers through his curly hair gently tugging at his scalp to hear a hum of pleaser run through his chest and I open my eyes to now see a pack of breath mints and a note that has a scribble of writing on it.

So she doesn’t have to die from your morning breath yet. Have fun bro ;)

I laugh knowing just who wrote that. He smiles into my skin and brings his calloused hand up my waist and holds onto my chest, feeling the vibrations of my laughter. I turn my head, cutting off his access to my neck and he brings his lips down to mine and we lazily explore each other. His tongue slips between my teeth and I meet him in the middle grazing along the roof of his mouth. I feel a small circle fall into my cheek and the taste of mint hits my tongue. I cut off our kiss and feel the small mint resting in my mouth as I swallow it back. He moves back and watches my throat as it falls down, his Adam’s apple bobbing up.

I lean up with a space between us as he continues to stare at the column of my throat. “Hungry?” I ask and start to shimmy my way off his lap. He quickly recovers and grips the small of my back with his hand pulling me back up against him and I quietly groan against the firmness of his grips.

“Not for that kind of food.” He mumbles before burying his head under my chin and roughly kissing and biting, working his way down my chest, sucking my firm breast and holding what isn’t in his mouth and rubbing the skin together in his strong grip. My back arches and his hand continues to press me into any part of his body he can. Making his way from one side to the other I have to bury my head into his curls to muffle the sounds of my mouth. He stops what he’s doing and I whimper wanting, needing more. He grips my chin and lowers my face to his. “Don’t hide it, I want to hear you being pleased, your voice is my favorite thing and I want to hear you being loved to.” He places a tender kiss on my lips and I almost fall apart with such a small action. “Will you hide from me, my wife?” He asks and I shake my head. He continues to stare at me and I almost can’t say anything with how fast my breathing is. “My wife?” He pursues until I give him an answer. “No,” I sigh. “Never.” I shake my head, my nose rubbing against the tip of his. “Good.” He says before retaking his place. I moan loudly, gripping his hair and pushing us together from both sides. He smiles and continues his track down my ribs, kissing and nibbling the dip between them. He slowly tries to lay me down back on the bed, but I keep my spine up not wanting to lose any contact with him. He chuckles into my abs and his fingers begin dancing along my spine, easing the muscles into relaxation and continues to roll me down slowly never breaking his kiss. I sigh as he continues to massage my body with his hands and lips, he travels farther down and pushes my thighs off of him and rubs small circles into them growing ever closer to my center. “May I, my love?” He asks me crouching lower, his fingers begin to move along my sensitive skin and I almost thrust into them but he keeps an unyielding hold on my body and looks at me, waiting for me to say something. “If you don’t, you’ll never be able to again.” I breathe out, closing my eyes and leaning against the pillows. “Hey, look at me. Let me see your beautiful eyes while I hold you.” I groan, my hands fisting the sheets of our bed. “Why are you so needy?” I pant out. He chuckles, answering, “I want to see our dreams come true in your eyes, so I’ll need you to keep them open for me right now.” He says before he dips his head and circles my skin with his tongue. I start to moan any kind of sound that will drive him deeper, and any time I do he pushes his face into me more. His tongue drove deeper into me, swirling around me and hitting every spot I didn’t know I had. I start to fall apart and he holds me while I do. I feel his finger tracing my skin, taking any liquid off of me, cleaning me of myself. He rises, sucking his finger with his eyes closed and I watch. I watch my beautiful husband sucking his finger and I reach out for him, grabbing his hand to pull it away from his mouth to put it straight into mine. I trace his fingertip quickly before guiding it out and replacing my hold with his cheek guiding his lips straight to mine too.

“Do you want breakfast anymore?” He quietly murmured against me and I smiled as he rolled over and pulled me into his chest. “No, I don’t think I’ll need to eat for a while right now.” I laugh.

Eventually, the two of us did leave the bed. Maybe with some whining from a certain male but we changed into clothes and left the suite to step out onto the balcony of the albergo. He wrapped his arms around my shoulders and we swayed together, hearing the faint sound of musicians just down the road. The city was buzzing with chaos, while we were quietly tucked away taking everything in. We saw a few of our friends walking down the road, returning to the inn from a morning of shopping.

“What are you thinking?” I ask my husband. He takes a second, rubbing his finger along my collarbone. “I’m thanking God that He has given me such a moment as this, to hold my wife, feel her breathing against my chest. Thank you for being my wife.” He whispers into my ear and a shiver runs through my spine. “Thank you for being my husband.” I say as I knot my fingers through his hair and bring our lips back together. Just before they meet, the two of us hear voices shouting outside our room door.

“It’s two in the afternoon! They’ve slept long enough.” “Unless they aren’t sleeping, in that case I don’t think you want to go in there!”

We glance at each other, each of us silently cursing the two people in the hall, before he leaves and goes to unlock the door. Our two brothers continue to argue, walking into our room before they stop and look at me and my husband. They smile awkwardly and laugh. “Hey guys, how’d you sleep?” His brother asks us while mine takes in the room. “What’d you guys eat all morning? There’s no food or dishes in here.” He stops walking around and faces me, then he stares and starts to walk back out the door with his head twisted in discomfort, muttering softly. I watch him leave and close the door before I turn back to my new brother-in-law. He smirks and looks at his brother. “So you guys had fun last night? And this morning?” His questions are met with blank stares before he opens his mouth again. “You guys ever gonna come down and talk with the people who flew across the world to see you guys get hitched?”

“Get out.” My husband and I say together.

“Getting out,” he says walking back toward the door. “You guys gonna go for round six now?” He asks as his brother closes the door in his face.

He shakes his head looking at me. “People are terrified of you, but they’ll still barge into our room the day after our wedding.” He says pointing to the door.

“Well they didn’t really barge in did they? You opened the door for them.” I smirk before he starts walking over with his eyes glazing over.

“Well then, we’ll just have to make sure that no one will want to come over here for a little while then, don’t we?” He asks and before I have time to answer with anything, he picks me up and takes me back to bed while I laugh the whole time.

We finally emerged from the room around dinner time, both of us now needing food. We were walking down the stairs laughing and messing around. I could hear our small families help the inn staff step up dinner. We only had immediate family and two of our closest friends came to our wedding because we wanted to be able to be married in Italy. Probably one of my favorite decisions, and we are able to stay here for three more weeks alone on someone else’s money-as Italy was a gift from my grandparents to me-and everyone else promised they would be on their way home tomorrow, as they came weeks earlier for their own vacation or to set up the wedding.

We talk on our way down and I turn back to ask my husband to repeat himself, but suddenly I’m falling back and with a sharp pain in the back of my head, everything goes black.

Everything was black. The floor, the walls, the ceiling. There was no window to let light in, no sound of my family coming to check on me. A breeze came in, just to chill me to the bone.

I laid there, quiet, cold. There was no way out. Not that I could see.

A small light glared in from a far. A small dull sound, beep, beep. My bones ache and are frozen, but I find a way to get to that light, the sound, but as soon as I stand I start to fall.

The beepings louder now, the light harsher behind my closed eyelids. There was something in my hand but my eyes didn’t want to open to see what it was. I left it there, holding my hand as the beeping started to get quieter again.

There! It’s coming back, I can hear it again, the beeping. But now there’s voices joining the sound, and it’s hard to make out what they’re saying.

Doctors don’t know…

Why did this have to…now… to her, why not m…

Her vitals are… it’s up to her now…

They continue talking. I don’t know for how long, I don’t know where I am, when it is, I don’t know… who I am.

I keep trying, so far nothing’s worked. Why won’t they just open! Ugh!

I can still hear the voices, it’s just one right now though, but it’s still not very clear.

I love you… I’m here for whenever… Time and Eternity, that’s what I promised you…

I still can’t open my eyes, my hands won’t move or twitch, nothing. I don’t know how to tell anyone that I’m okay. But honestly, I don’t even know if that’s true.

Finally! I laugh and I can feel my chest moving slightly. My eyes are fluttering, almost!

“Ugh,” I groan, I try to bring my hand up to my head, but someone is still holding it. There’s a guy, he’s the one holding my hand. He was sleeping on my thigh, his other hand on my chest. He’s awake now, his eyes are wide and his mouth keeps moving but I can’t hear what he’s saying. He grabs my face and starts to bring us closer together, but I push back my eyes wide and startled.

“I-I’m sorry,” I say, not knowing if he can hear me or not. “Do I know you?”

His dark green eyes freeze, it looks like the heart behind them just shattered. He let go of my face and walked out of the room. I hope he’s gone to get the nurse, I thought. He’s quite handsome. He’s probably seeing someone though.

Here’s my honest take on your story:

This narrative masterfully contrasts tender romance with heart-wrenching tragedy. The opening scenes immerse readers in the newlyweds' intimacy, painting their connection with lush, sensory detail—soft kisses, whispered promises, and playful banter create a vivid portrait of love and passion. The dialogue feels authentic, particularly the couple’s teasing dynamic, while secondary characters (like the brothers) inject brief levity.

However, the story pivots abruptly from warm sensuality to a medical drama when the protagonist falls, suffers a head injury, and awakens with amnesia. While the twist delivers an emotional gut-punch—the husband’s shattered reaction is haunting—the transition feels rushed, diluting the impact of both genres. The hospital scenes, though poignant, lack the rich detail of earlier chapters, leaving the medical crisis underdeveloped.

Strengths lie in the protagonist’s voice, which balances vulnerability and wit, and the husband’s unwavering devotion, which anchors the emotional core. Yet the jarring tonal shift may leave readers unsettled, as the lush romantic buildup clashes with the abrupt, unresolved tragedy. Despite this, the story lingers in my mind, a testament to its raw exploration of love and loss. A compelling, if uneven, tale of passion and heartbreak.

No thank you so much. I really appreciate the feedback. This was one of my first short stories so I’m still learning how to make them impactful while also keeping it sweet and short.
