The Whipsfield Whisperer
50 years of Winslow’s - Kenny Teberick 1986
Whipsfield staple Winslow’s Diner celebrated its 50th anniversary this last Saturday, right in Town Square in Whipsfield. In attendance was Mr Winslow [72] himself with his wife of 40 years, Dottie [70] and their extended family of sons, daughters, nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Other party-goers include the mayor himself, the police chief, fellow business owners, schoolchildren and townsfolk all over.
“Winslow’s will stand another 50 years! Mr Arnold Winslow declared happily when asked for a statement by the WHIPSFIELD WHISPERER, “My son and his daughter and her daughters and their sons will keep the diner running for the people!"
Winslow’s is open 24 hours, 6 days a week, save for Sundays, when it is open 9 to 5.

Strapsfield Review
Winslow going on the Downlow - Mike Gratton 1996
A cultural institution in Whipsfield might be on its last legs. Having recently celebrated 60 years of service, the local diner has hit a bump in the road in the time since the retirement of old Winslow. The diner has since come under the leadership of his son, Jacob and his wife, Debra, along with a new design and menu [the prices remain the same], both of which leave something to be desired. A helping of overcooked steak served with a wilted garnish was the special this past Tuesday evening. Choked down with a bottle of what I strongly suspect was watered-down Bud Light. The counters and booths have been replaced with uncomfortable straight-backed chairs and glass tables. I can see the crumbs left on the floor through.
My opinion is not alone, as customers have been decreasing in numbers for months now, choosing to head to Happy Hamburgler’s or Noodle Hut instead for their lunch breaks and family dinners. Either more changes need to follow, or this reviewer is sticking to grab-and-go from the local Lunchbreakia.

Winslow Sells the Business - Jennifer Nevrok 2000
Winslow’s will continue under new management this November, as Miss Gabby Price, 34, has purchased the old business from the Winslow clan. The diner has fallen from grace in recent years since the passing of its founder, Arnold Winslow and his son, Jacob, in a freak accident in 1998, with reports of decreased hygiene and edibility in dishes and health code violations. While incidents such as the closure of longtime partner Melman’s Farms and the disappearance of granddaughter Tammy Winslow have affected business, the growing decline looked to end the 64 years of service Winslow’s brought to the town until Miss Price, a waitress at the diner, purchased the business last month. The Winslow clan states they intend to focus on the search for their missing daughter with the money and leave their legacy in Miss Price’s hands. Only time will tell if it is enough.

Wedding Announcements - Paul Tove 2002
Gabby Price + Tommy Campbell were married this Sunday at the Town Hall at 3:00, surrounded by their family and friends. Price is the owner of local diner Winslow’s while Campbell runs the morgue at the nearby hospital in Strapsfield. Here’s to hoping the Price-Campbells have a happy future!

Strapsfield Review - 2005
It appears one may have spoken too soon about Winslow’s dim future upon the purchasing of the Whipsfield landmark by one Gabby Price. Our very own Lex Larkin had the opportunity to sample the new menu and decor [the former shared below] this Friday during the new Half Price Hour offered by the establishment, and it is his pleasure to report that Winslow’s new menu is hearty and succulent and “far more suitable for the weather we have” The meatball soup replaces the fried chicken as the most sought after dish and the booths are back, giving the diner a sense of comfort to it. Interviews with customers reveal that Winslow’s is as busy and bustling as in the days of Arnold Winslow. Time will tell if this continues, but this reporter will be stopping by for a bowl of meatball soup very soon!

The Whipsfield Whisperer -
Grand reopening of Winslow’s 2012
Winslow’s opened this Saturday with a whole new look for the first time in 70 years! The diner was packed as the entire town seemed eager to enjoy the free offerings of the bowls that are the talk of the past five kilometres stretching outside even Whipsfield. The walls freshly painted, employees bedecked in a new uniform, the aroma wafting through the air provided a scene of comfort that Whipsfield has not experienced in years. There have even been rumours of franchising, though when asked, Mrs Campbell-Price gave away nothing.
Congratulations on 70 years, Winslow’s!
Missing - Jerome Jones
Last seen leaving his job at Winslow’s diner. Contact the Whipsfield Police Station with any information you may have.
Dear Mr Cline.
My name is Bobby, you covered the police awards ceremony in Whipsfield last year? If so, I have a question for you. This town is one of the only few places where people still buy newspapers. In case you are wondering how I read your stuff, what matters is what I need you to do.
Look at me, I’m so desperate I am asking a complete stranger if he can publish my theory but the police are too busy chasing cats up trees to listen to me. You might have heard of the disappearance of Jerome Jones recently. He bused tables at Winslow’s diner, sort of a town landmark here i guess, I am a vegetarian and their menu does nothing for me but it is next door to Bubbles [I like the tea there] and I was there the night Jerome disappeared…thing is despite what the missing posters say. I never actually saw him leave work. Mrs Winslow keeps telling everyone he clocked out at 8 but I never saw him and…it was Friday, the diner always stocks up over the weekend but I don’t think I have ever seen a delivery van outside the place.
Something’s not right. I know something is wrong but no one will listen. I’m not crazy and I’m not making this up. Please get back to me soon, At the very least, can you look into the matter? I hope so anyway.
Sincerely, Bobby Lisey.
