I have a bachelor's degree from Wayne State University with a major in English. After working in clerical and purchasing positions, I switched careers and began indexing nonfiction books in 2008. I worked for a vanity publisher for some years, indexing memoirs, health, hobby, business, and inspirational titles. In 2011, I also began indexing custom college textbooks for Hayden-MacNeil, now part of Macmillan Learning. These textbooks were mainly for business, biology, psychology, and English composition courses.

I am a voracious reader and read about many subjects that interest me, including psychology, neuroscience, philosophy, nature, climate, health, science, spirituality, metaphysics, and writing. Unless a subject is intensely difficult or technical, I am willing to index it. I don't think indexers need specialized education or experience to index most subjects. Experience and common sense go a long way!

My rates are based on the number of pages in your manuscript, the density of the material, and how quick of a turnaround you need. Please let me know if you have any specific style requirements or file formats. Once I receive your manuscript I will read it carefully (every page!) and create a detailed, thorough, and most importantly, useful index. As a bonus, I will also include an errata sheet listing any typos or egregious errors that I notice while reading. I don't claim that this list will be exhaustive, but another pair of eyes never hurts.

When requesting a quote please let me know how many pages there are in your book and please mention if it is a smaller size (7 X 9 for example). If possible, I would love to see the entire manuscript so that I can give you an accurate quote.

Please note that I need to work from the final page proofs (after your book has been typeset and proofread). Any changes to the page numbers will affect the index so it's very important that I have the final version.
