Overview
I began my publishing career as an award-winning sales representative (covering all academic disciplines) and sponsoring editor (math and statistics) for McGraw-Hill's College Division. As editor, I took a list in free fall and led it to one of the premier spots in the industry. My responsibilities including proposal and competitive analysis, list management, and review analysis. I acquired new titles, renewed old ones, developed comprehensive supplements programs, analyzed reviews, helped my authors develop complete and consistent pedagogy, and collaborated with the production team all the way through printed books and supplements.
Since leaving McGraw-Hill in 1990, I have been a freelance editor for a variety of publishers. My responsibilities have ranged from tasks similar to my McGraw-Hill role to developmental and line editing, copy editing, proofreading, and indexing as well as writing.
I managed Worth Publishers' math list in the early 1990s. For American BookWorks, I developed and edited over two dozen titles of the HarperCollins College Outline Series, including titles in art and music, social sciences, history and government, mathematics, business and economics, and language arts. For Wiley, I developed college texts, mostly in accounting.
From 1998 to 2016, I was the main developmental and copy editor for Industrial Press, working very closing with the editorial director and head of production. I edited over 70 books for professionals, managers, and students in industry and manufacturing, in areas such as reliability and maintenance, machine shop strategies, cultural change, CNC programming, welding, math and statistics, inventory, materials science, cutting tools, best practices, and more.
I also co-wrote four editions of The Kids' College Alamanac: A First Look at College, an award-winning book written primarily for middle school and early high school students. As a result of this experience, as well as other writing experiences, I fully appreciate the author's perspective. I'm also strong at writing to spec.
I am a strong advocate for my authors and am fully committed to helping them communicate their information clearly to the target audience. One of my particular strengths is helping authors transform material developed for presentations given before live audiences into equally clear information that must stand alone for remote readers the author will never meet.
I look forward to helping you reach your audience with clarity and style.
