Kristin Foti Errico

Kristin Foti Errico – Editor

Copy editor and proofreader with nearly 20 years of experience in print publishing, specifically children’s, teen, YA, and adult trade.

Overview

I have nearly 20 years of experience in managing editorial, working on both fiction and nonfiction in children’s books, middle grade, teen, YA, and adult trade. Whether it’s a chapter book, cookbook, picture book, or board book, I’m excited to see great content shine.

I began my journey at Harlequin where I learned the ins and outs of trade book production, working closely with editorial and freelance pools. Over the years, I supervised beta readers, then copy editors, and built up Harlequin’s sensitivity/authenticity read freelance program, which was eventually adopted by several of HarperCollins’s imprints.

I also learned all about nonfiction publishing and supported Harlequin Nonfiction and Hanover Square Press books.

These days I’m at Little Bee Books, elbow deep in picture, board, activity, and chapter books for all ages, copy editing and proofreading a wide range of content and style.

I have worn so many different hats over the years, and I’m eager to put all that experience to good use! I’m a full-time employee and a mother of two, but I will always respond in a timely fashion and treat my collaborators with the same professionalism I bring to my office.

I believe great stories underpin our lives and guide us on our journey, so of course, I love what I do! And I’m always looking for an opportunity to support storytelling’s place in the world.

A few things more things to know about how I can best help:

As a copy editor, I can only go so far in editing content and should be sought only after a work is fully developed. If I find a work is too rough, I'll kick it back and recommend submitting it to a developmental editor. A developmental read will smooth out higher level issues and pave the way for a more effective copy edit.

Proofreading is best done after a book has been set by a professional designer and comes at the very end of your process. Raw manuscript files shouldn't be submitted for a proofread—but I'll be happy to copy edit them!

I use Merriam Webster and Chicago Manual of Style regularly and will consult both for spelling and style decisions. If there is a particular style or rule that you want me to follow instead, e.g., avoiding the oxford comma, etc., then absolutely let me know.

Happy writing!
