Melissa MacAulay

Melissa MacAulay – Editor

Experienced academic/non-fiction editor with a PhD in philosophy.

Overview

I'm a professional editor offering copy editing, proofreading, and developmental editing services to academic and non-fiction authors in the humanities and social sciences, broadly construed. I've edited books about history, languages, archaeology, art, literature, philosophy, anthropology, sports, etc. Previous clients have included independent academic authors as well as publishers such as Broadview Press, Routledge, and University of Toronto Press.

If you have a non-fiction book (or article, funding proposal, dissertation, etc.), I can help you make sure that the writing is clean and polished, and that the ideas flow logically. I am not afraid to tackle new intellectual terrain; whatever your topic, I can take it on! I have experience working with clients who use British English, Canadian English, and American English, as well as non-native English speakers. I can also edit reference lists to adhere to whatever style you wish (Chicago, APA, etc.). Feel free to ask me for a sample edit to get a sense of my editing style before you commit.

I look forward to working with you!

It was a joy working with Melissa. My book discussed obscure points of history, mind-bending philosophy and referenced ancient languages and exotic locations. She handled it all with expertise and creativity, making my book a much better read while preserving my voice and intentions. I'd give ten stars if I could!

Melissa was so easy to work with. She understood my tone and actually helped ensure that tone came out consistent and clear. And all her suggestions on developmental and copy edit were spot on. She communicated well and completed the project on time and promptly.

Melissa did a fabulous job working on our business guide. She edited and reorganized the content with a very keen eye for structure and consistency, and left many thoughtful comments to help us develop a more complete edition. She has been courteous and punctual throughout the entire process, and we would be very happy to hire her again for future work.
