Marissa Yates

Marissa Yates – Editor

Proofreader specializing in children's books. Experience working with publishers including Candlewick Press and Zando.

Overview

When you've spent countless hours painstakingly writing first, second, and even third drafts of your beloved novel, you need someone to clean up the small, tedious stuff to make sure your work shines! I specialize in proofreading, the final step before publishing your masterpiece. This includes checking grammar, eliminating pesky typos, and verifying every detail is accurate and aligned with the work as a whole. While this does not include developmental editing, if I notice something that I believe could improve the work, I'll still query it for you.

While my primary experience is in proofreading children's books, I've also proofread fantasy and historical romance. Personally, my favorite genre to read in my free time is psychological thriller, so I can't wait to proofread one professionally!

In my work as a freelance proofreader for publishers, the reference materials I work with most include The Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS) and Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary. I also have experience proofreading from American English to British English and vice-versa.

As an aspiring author myself, I understand just how special your novel is to you. That's why I'm dedicated to giving your work the attention it deserves, all with the professionalism and tact YOU deserve as an author. I know it can be uncomfortable to get critiques, but know that it is in service of making your book the absolute best it can be.

I can't wait to read your masterpiece!
