Overview
"Working with Kirsty [on my YA fantasy novel] was an absolute joy. Her rigorous feedback helped me develop my skills and confidence as a writer. Kirsty was the first person to read and edit what would become my debut novel, THE REVELS. Her close reading and insightful questions were invaluable in spurring me on to finish my debut, find an agent and get a publishing deal with HarperCollins. I highly recommend Kirsty's services!"
I am a freelance copy editor and proofreader with 25+ years' experience in publishing. I have helped debut authors win book deals and get shortlisted for writing prizes, such as the Bracken Bower Prize 2020. I have also worked with seasoned children's authors on countless titles both in-house for Walker Books (Alex Rider, Shaun the Sheep, etc.) as Senior Copy Editor (ie, lead proofreader for Anthony Horowitz and others), and as a freelancer.
In the parenting and families sector, a book I edited in 2021 - DAD - is an Amazon Top 10 and Hive Top 20 bestseller and was featured on the BBC and ITV. Author Elliott Rae's feedback: "Kirsty, you were a joy to work with."
A recent project, ALLYSHIP ACTUALLY, published in November 2024 with IT Governance Publishing. My developmental edit enabled the two debut authors shape their narrative into a gripping, inspirational read. I helped them iron out inconsistencies, spot plot and character hiccups, smooth the flow and tone, and enhance the message of the book. Author David Barrow's feedback: "Your comments, suggestions, edits, ideas were amazing, thank you. I usually dislike the edit part (based on prior experience), but your work made it worthwhile."
I do an extremely thorough, thoughtful job on any project, providing constructive feedback to shape your work into the best it can be. Authors find me very approachable, insightful and encouraging, and always ready to help.
