Katie Bond

Katie Bond – Editor

Supportive and astute developmental editor for fiction and non-fiction. 15+ years’ experience at Bloomsbury, Aurum & Elliott & Thompson.

Overview

I help authors and publishers turn promising ideas into standout books. As a book doctor, manuscript structural editor and publishing consultant, I guide projects from rough concept to ready-to-publish — offering creative focus and strategic clarity every step of the way.

With 15+ years’ experience at Bloomsbury, the National Trust, Quarto and Elliott & Thompson, I’ve commissioned, edited and published many bestselling and award-winning fiction and non-fiction authors.

I work closely with writers to sharpen ideas and strengthen the narrative, ensuring that the book’s thesis or story, voice, structure, characters and positioning are exactly right for readers and the market. My editorial approach is warm, confidence-building and rigorous. It is tailored to the needs of each individual project, whether that’s a light edit or longer-term mentoring a first-time author.

If you’re looking for an experienced editorial partner to help your book become its best version, I’d love to hear from you.

Testimonials:

NON-FICTION EDITING:

"I enjoyed working with Katie so much, I chose her over other publishers with both my books, following her when she moved from Aurum to Elliott & Thompson. Dynamic, caring, dedicated, with boundless energy and vision, her positivity is infectious. Able to listen and react as well as being proactive, Katie's creativity, eye for detail and commitment make her a brilliant guiding light and her PR background shines through when it comes to the broader context. Katie is the dream editor." HANNAH BOURNE-TAYLOR

FICTION EDITING:

"Katie is a wonder. She immediately grasps what you’re trying to do and identifies where it’s working and where it’s not. Then she explains why, what’s needed and makes suggestions about how to achieve it. She provided robust (but encouraging) Editorial Notes, plus detailed Track Changes. In the latter she highlighted any action, characters or lines that she loved (very important) or that she liked but which needed shortening, or that she said added nothing and should be cut – plus additional observations, queries and suggestions. Her thoughts were always thought-provoking and, even when I disagreed, it was a tremendous way of stress-testing the narrative, plot, story or character. She works at bionic speed, while also being sensitive to standard writers’ hang-ups (for example, always getting back sooner than she promised). She noticed numerous things in my script that hadn’t occurred to me – good and bad. I was left thinking: ‘Wow … if only all books that reach the shelf could have been gone through by a Katie.’ I can’t recommend her highly enough." ANTONY WOODWARD
