Jennifer Kim

Jennifer Kim – Editor

I have 10 years of experience working in publishing in development, editorial, royalties, and literary agenting.

Overview

Hi! I'm Jennifer, a first generation Korean-American literary agent, based in Southern California. I've been working in publishing in various jobs since 2015, and have years of experience working in development, editorial, royalties, and now, literary agenting! I offer query letter guidance, manuscript evaluations, book coaching, and developmental editing, all to help you find and connect with your own agent. A note: because I work as an agent, please note that if I work with you through Reedsy, I won't be able to take you on as my own client.

I'm a big fan of literary fiction, upmarket genre fiction (specifically horror and speculative fiction), as well as history, pop culture, music, and journalism. I studied Spanish literature at university and have a particular interest in works from around the world, either translated or written originally in English. I'm particularly fond of marginalized authors and stories, anything considered alternative or goth, and anything that tackles themes of displacement, with a strong sense of place.

When working together, you can expect a relaxed and low-stress experience: I really just love to chat books and story (tv and movies too), and want to talk about your publishing goals in your journey to finding a literary agent, and what to expect. My goal is to be as approachable as possible for both your too-embarrassing-to-ask questions, as well as your am-I-doing-this-right questions.

Looking forward to working together!

-Jenn

(query + first 1,000 words review) Jennifer managed to raise the bar and elevate my query/narrative potential with her insights. Even before bidding the project, she ensured she had a clear picture of the story so she could provide a more informed critique, which impressed me. I've now got mysel...
