Whitney Noziska – Editor

I work with subject matter experts & thinkers who have something new to say. On Berrett-Koehler's roster for projects that need a keener eye

Overview

Most authors who come to me have been circling their real argument for years.

They know something is there. They can't quite name it yet.

I find it. Then I show them exactly how to build around it.

My name is Whitney and I'm an expert developmental editor, narrative consultant and story coach. Authors trust me with the messy version of their thinking, and I take that seriously. Cultivating that trust is the part of this work I love most.

Professional ghostwriters consult me and I'm frequently hired by authors *after* other developmental editors have already worked on their manuscripts. Authors I've worked with have been distributed by Penguin Random House, Simon & Schuster, Macmillan, and Wiley.

Berrett-Koehler Publishers keeps me on their roster for special projects that need a keener eye:

- "[Whitney] has the capability to dig well beyond the basics (which not many editors and writers can do) to go deep into nuances […] and though they can not always be seen, they are certainly felt.

She engages deeply and comprehensively, taking apart everything and sharpening and polishing the parts before putting them back together[....] and that is a skill few have.” - Jeevan Sivasubramaniam, VP of Editorial at Berrett-Koehler Publishers

I primarily work with subject matter experts: scientists, professionals, academics, and thinkers who have something genuinely new to say.

I read a manuscript asking three questions: what is this author really trying to say, why should anyone care, and is the argument being made effectively. Then I give clear, actionable recommendations with explanations, so the author understands their own work better coming out than going in.

I'm trained with an MBA and think like an acquisition editor. I know what gets picked up and why. When I recognize talent, I root for it, and when I see a resonant idea, I build toward it.

Authors who work with me tend to stay in touch.

If you have real thinking and need someone to help you see it clearly, please reach out.

CLIENT PROFILE

I work best with authors who have something genuinely original to say and know it, but can't yet see their own argument or narrative clearly enough to make it land. Subject matter experts. But also fantastic fiction writers, screenwriters and documentarians. Writers serious about contribution.

I invest my time in projects and authors I like.

If you're looking for line edits, grammar polish, or a fast turnaround on a cleanup job, I'm not the right fit.

NOTE I don't offer ghostwriting services. I can work with your ghostwriter on concept and structure, but I am not a ghostwriter.

Work experience

Self-employed

Sep, 2019 — Present
I offer story consulting and developmental editing on established projects to create stand-out work. My experience includes non-fiction, fiction, narrative films and documentaries.

Berrett-Koehler Publishers

Oct, 2023 — Present
As a freelance manuscript reviewer, I provide a written assessment of manuscript drafts that includes development recommendations as well as provide in-manuscript comments and suggestions. My manuscript assessment has been held up by the Managing Director of Editorial as an example as the highest caliber of work for other reviewers and I've been added to Berrett-Koehler's roster for special projects "that require a keener eye and dissection." I worked on the manuscript of "The Laughter Factor" by professional comedian, Adam Christing, which was just released in September 2025 to high praise and has Penguin Random House distribution. The Managing Director relayed that my feedback on this manuscript was "instrumental."
