Overview
My first decade of publishing was spent in-house, working largely on non-fiction books, from childcare, health and self-help to political exposes, celebrity memoirs and everything you could want to know about horses. As a freelancer, my horizons have been further broadened by the range of copy I edit: my schedule can start with a twisted psychological thriller, followed by a report on deforestation and climate change, and finish off with some debut romantic fiction. But the range of subjects and authors makes mine an endlessly enjoyable and interesting job. Whether my client is an author trying to get published, a corporate organisation or a book publisher, I approach each project in the same way, offering a reliable, flexible and empathetic service, where the mutual goal is to make the written work as smooth and compelling as it can be.
"I first used Cassie's editorial service prior to submitting my novel to agents and her meticulous approach ensured that I returned to her for subsequent novels long after I had secured agent representation. Cassie has transformed the manuscripts that needed it but she also knows when something is working well and when to leave storylines and characters alone. She has an eagle eye for the copy edit combined with an ability to see the manuscript from a distance, following character progression, plot and structure with as much attention as she would in spotting tiny grammatical errors. Cassie has an excellent knowledge of character - on many occasions she has asked 'would he really say that?' or 'would she really behave like this?' and she knows when more information is required to explain a plot hole or when background information could be better converted to dialogue. I have used Cassie's editorial services on three books now and would not hesitate to use her again or recommend her to others. She has a wealth of experience, she knows what works in the current market, she is thorough and professional in her approach and the success I have had in securing both an agent and a publishing deal is thanks in no small part to her.
