Overview
I was the Editor in Chief at Moon Travel, where I developed multiple best-selling titles and mentored other editors in honing their skills. I was responsible for editorial quality, proofing nearly every book, and I pitched in wherever I was needed, including copyediting and indexing.
I was also the Editorial Director of Westview Press, which published higher education textbooks primarily in sociology and political science. I developmentally edited books on race and ethnicity, social theory, and global diplomacy, among others.
Not only am I an editor of travel books and textbooks, I am a consumer of them as well. I buy a range of books for every trip, and I am a lifelong learner, taking full advantage of the free community college classes available to all San Francisco residents. This gives me an engaged reader's point of view on the books I edit.
Having been on small teams throughout my career, I have experience in all stages of the editorial process, and I am an expert at developmental editing. A strong outline and a clear angle, or "take," are essential to a successful book, and I have helped numerous authors with developing these. I also have an uncanny ability to spot coverage gaps.
As you can probably tell from the types of books I've edited, I love learning as I work. I never know what nuggets of knowledge I'll gain from any project, and that's what keeps me excited about my work.
