Doug Sanders

Doug Sanders – Editor

I'm a developmental editor and copy editor with almost 30 years in the trenches, ready to pore over and polish your words

Overview

I started out editing children's trade and adult reference, then worked at Harold Bloom's imprint for five years, over to Oxford University Press, followed by a five-year stint as a staff editor at the New York Times Book Review. For the past eight years, I've edited trade nonfiction and fiction for Tuttle Publishing.

With Tuttle's unique business model (pan-Asian topics), I got to work on an amazing range of books: yokai "handbooks," a children's biography of a Filipina scientist, wabi sabi: what is it? Awesome topics, but what I love most is working with the authors who bring these subjects to life. I'm here to deftly and gently help you develop, elevate, polish, and shape your work.

Some areas and subgenres where I've been able to help writers shine:

--Fiction: Children's and Y.A. fantasy/sci-fi

--Nonfiction: Self-help and reference/general NF

I now live on a mountaintop in Vermont. When the six weeks of summer are over, I need to keep busy. So send me your work and tell me what you need!
