Mishma Nixon – Editor

I have worked in editorial at a Big Five children's imprint, and have experience working with picture books through YA, with an interest in select adult fiction and nonfiction. I have worked with NYTimes bestselling, award-winning authors (including the NBA and Newbery) and debut talent. I received my MFA from the Nonfiction Writing Program at the University of Iowa, and am also well versed in literary fiction and nonfiction, as well as upmarket and cross over novels.

I have experience working with early career and established authors, and have enjoyed being a part of a book's journey from its conception to release, while being able to support first time authors navigating publishing. As an editor, I can help with early to mid stages of story development, query process, and developmental editing. If needed, I can also offer detailed line edits to refine your prose.

I am excited about picture books that center joy and tell stories about places or people that haven't been told before. In MG and YA, I look for contemporary and fantasy, with a soft spot for coming of age narratives, gothic fiction, and sweeping fantasy settings. In nonfiction, I am interested in memoir, cultural criticism, and essay collections. As someone who grew up in the global south, I am also keenly interested in stories set outside of the US.
