Weekly Contest #347
Do you ever have moments where you have to question whether or not you are the problem? Of course, you haven’t. Honestly, I’m jealous. This has been a nauseating experience. Last night’s dinner was something so awful that I refuse to speak about it. My morning starts like usual. I get out of bed, curate my physique and walk out of my room. I pause at my son’s door. The urge to just knock, reach over and speak to him is immense. But an imaginary force holds me back, forcing me to continue my mundane routine. I enter the kitchen, grab the maso...
Weekly Contest #337
Deep into the forest line lies a castle. However, it is not just a castle. For you see, this castle is... a type of castle that can only be described as... a castle. Its dark appearance and shimmer draw the illusion of being entirely made of obsidian. The motes which surround the building strengthen the dark, looming aura it exudes. The pine trees against the deep, stormy clouds almost make it appear black. The sky falls with drizzle, reflecting the black surroundings as it falls. It is the perfect camouflage for the inhabitants of the Black...
Weekly Contest #333
CW: Mature themes, sexual content and mental health The ding of the oven prompts me to walk over to it quickly. I look inside and see that the pastry goods are ready. I put my mittens on, open the oven, and take out the tray. I put the tray on the cooling rack and leave it. As the pastries cool, I go into the fridge and take out the homemade cream that I made earlier today. I sigh as I check my phone; no text from my husband. The back of my mind is hoping that he will send me the magical words. But I know that he won’t, much to my disappoin...
Christine rises from bed, gasping for air. The woman looks around, realising that she is back in her room. The early morning casts its cooling air onto her. However, this does nothing to soothe Christine's paranoia. She checks her phone and sees that it is Sunday at 6:43 am. Her chocolate eyes close as she recites her morning prayer. Domine Deus, gratias tibi ago pro vita quam mihi donasti. Gratias ago tibi pro matre mea et patre meo, qui me ad lucem tuam duxerunt. Dum me tibi subicio, oro ut Spiritus Sanctus me protegat a tenebris. Oro u...
Weekly Contest #308
A stray beam of light peeks through the curtains and lands on the young woman's face. The warmth tickles her chocolate skin, rousing her from her slumber. The woman wakes up with the familiar empty void deep within her soul. Her chocolate eyes slowly scan the towering boxes in her bedroom before closing her eyes and reciting her morning prayer. Domine Deus, gratias tibi ago pro vita quam mihi donasti. Gratias ago tibi pro matre mea et patre meo, qui me ad lucem tuam duxerunt. Dum me tibi subicio, oro ut Spiritus Sanctus me protegat a tenebr...
Weekly Contest #307
The young woman scratches her short nails against the bandages in quick succession. Her chocolate eyes scan the estate eight times as simpleton transports her possessions around for her. She notes that the house appears plucked straight from Transylvania’s Gothic era. However, she knows Canada didn’t have its first European settlers for another three centuries. The woman’s left eye slightly twitches as they holds her scientific equipment with little to no care. The prices for the pre-order alone are more than enough to pay their annual salar...
Weekly Contest #290
Her long brown hair is in a mess, tangled with leaves and twigs. Her pink dress, once pristine, is now streaked with mud and grass stains, and her voice carries across the playground in a ferocious battle cry. This is how six-year-old Sabre first meets her—Balance Dalmania Greggio, the birthday girl. He watches in awe as she parades her chaotic energy, commanding attention from anyone unfortunate enough to cross her path. His heart rate increases, and butterflies emerge in his stomach. At that moment, the boy knew, with unshakable certainty...

Rexonus Jackson "Jake" Luxemburg drives towards the big gold and emerald gates. Jessica looks out of the passenger window. Her anxiety heightening as he honks his horn, alerting the occupants of the large estate that they are here. As the gates slowly open, her boyfriend of four years brings the car to the entrance of the manor. Jessica can feel the stares of the staff stab her. Jake then places an assuring hand on her lap, his touch meant to alleviate her nerves, but it feels more like a weight pinning her down. They step out of the car, ...
Weekly Contest #287
Calvin watches Norville as he pours both him and his guest a cup of tea. He thanks Norville before dismissing the butler from his greenhouse, leaving the two alone. His hazel eyes watch the golden spoon as it goes round and round in the porcelain cup. The spoon hits against the edge of the cup with soft tinks. Like clockwork, the rhythmic pattern from the spoon is soothing. His eyes trace the dark fingers with black French-tip nails and golden tips holding the spoon. The fingers then pull the spoon out of the cup and place it into the owner’...
The young woman packs up the last box with her stuff. Her blond hair is tied up in a sleek bun and her usual dress is replaced with an oversized T-shirt with matching sweatpants. Her golden cross necklace sways as she tapes up the cardboard box together. Her fingers tremble as she smoothes the box. She then carries the box towards the silver Nissan Sentra and hands the item to the older man, who grunts with buckling knees. Despite this, he walks to the back of the car and places the box in the trunk. He releases a sigh of relief as he cracks...
