“Can you keep a secret?” the small voice seemed to intrude on Sylvia’s reading from nowhere. She put down her digital reader and looked around to see the source of the question. Twisted around in the bus seat ahead of her, a small girl with chestnut hair and large round eyes looked expectantly at Sylvia. Sylvia smiled, but kept her lips tight and flat, hoping to encourage the girl to turn back around and sit quietly.
