Weekly Contest #361
Towering sunflowers waltz as they bake in the sunshine. I’m lying on our chair. The breeze is an inferno, stifling every inhale. I won’t be able to stay out here long. My skin broiling, I feel redness seeping across it already. “Get more sunshine” everyone says. “Get Vitamin D, it will help your grief.” The rays may be increasing my D, but they’re draining my mood. You should be here. We should be complaining about the unbearable Texas July heat together. A heat the devil himself avoids this time of year. I should be setting our timer for o...
Weekly Contest #360
184 Days I’m making this video diary should anything happen to me. Today I’m officially 6 months from my effusion date. If I cannot conceive by my fortieth birthday, I’ll be released from the colony, into the unknown darkness surrounding us. Kat’s effusion date’s approaching as well. She’s begging I join the Resistance, but the risk’s great. If caught, the Panel can decide our effusion date. So far, they’ve completed seventeen early effusions for rebels they’ve caught or suspected.Kat tells me the Assembly of Mothers told the Panel the injec...
Weekly Contest #359
January 5 Dearest Finley, We arrived at Rose Castle. We’re hopeful their Medicus and Healers can determine what plagues the Queen, our dear Momma. Alchemist Matlock’s pledged to discern the dark magic and to reverse its effects. Herbalist Loree’s committed also. Lady Paula’s graciously placed her Court at our disposal. She’s granted us her Apothecary, Cunning-Man, Rootworker, and Wise-Woman. Heaven’s ordained true blessings with their willingness to aid us. Upon arrival, Momma’s temperature was boiling. Unable to rise from the carriage, ...
Weekly Contest #358
Today I’ll find my prize egg, not in my Easter basket or hidden at a potluck’s egg hunt. Nope. HE’LL be in the wilderness, in the fur-esh air, hidden amongst the wooded trails winding around the Palo Pinto Mountains that slow-bake in sunshine. The breeze’s crisp, scented with spring and critters. Ok. So it’s a little hot, a little dry, and that breeze’s like an angry rooster whipping around kicking up dirt. But, nothing’s gonna bring me down today. Absolutely nothing. Today’s special. Momma and I’ve been down a while so today’s a treat. She’...
Weekly Contest #357
Today we’re going on a hike, something I REALLY dig. We’ve made the long journey, been buckled-in and on the road for hours. To top it off, it rained the whole way, which made my mood a “lottle” sour. It’s like a little, but a lot. I guess at least now it’s cooled down, but my mood’s a little dampened thinking of the humidity and if the trails are too soggy. Just a little though because Momma’s resilient and adventurous; she doesn’t mind a little squishy mud and a few puddles. As long as it’s not too humid for us, she’s always up for a new a...
