Weekly Contest #373

This story contains abuse, violence, grief and Trans and mental health issues that may be a trigger for some. I Tell no Lies Alice reeled at the words before her. “You’re always drunk and when you are you are nasty… all you do is bully everyone If he’s really as bad as you say just leave him or better still get in touch with the domestic abuse services, that’s what they’re there for. A Transitioning Odyssey

Weekly Contest #346

This story contains violence with mentions of death and religious belief. A Transitioning Odyssey “Ohh SHIIITTT…….Not this again….” Those were the last words to go through my mind. As I felt the agony of a sharp twist of the knife that was entering my right lung. My throat tightening into a silent scream. Gasping for the air that was no longer able to enter either of them. My left lung felt itself expanding to try and compensate. Gripping onto the air it still had. Like a completely filled up balloon about to burst, It strained and pushed ...

Dancing with the Rain

Weekly Contest #332

Dancing with the Rain If I open my eyes, will I finally see that rainbow? Who’s to know? I can certainly see it reflected in my mind the way the colours merge through from the faintest pink reflection into the well known colours red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet, with the faintest edge of pink once again. All vibed in a merging flow, smudged perfectly together. My eyes rolling along the colours, over and over, whilst the droplet of rain that hit my forehead less than a second ago rolls down the inner edge of my eye, tickli...

She is not Me.

Weekly Contest #316

She is not Me She looks just like me but she is not me. I see her all the time we walk past each other often. Some times she glances in my direction, other times we pass each other in silence. However there have been times when she would look directly at me, even stare me down. She appears a little crazy pulling faces at me, thinking she is funny. I see her for who she is just a copycat. She likes to mimic and pretend she’s cool but I know she is a fake. Constantly trying to outsmart me. There have also been occasions when she has winked...

You could have Fooled Me

Weekly Contest #312

You could have Fooled Me Hello there my name is Ramon Carina. I attend my local college ‘Rug- Moore innovative Art college’. Along with around 800 other artists. The college is just like any other with the only difference being we are the first college too trial AI students. By that I don’t mean the usual traditional AI learning assistants like Alexa and Siri. I mean there are around 80 of those students who are actual physical student humanoids mixing in with humans to learn for themselves. They blend in by looking like them and all though...

Thin Veils

Weekly Contest #307

Thin veils Back in 1825: The veil between worlds was thinning out rapidly. A real life matrix situation of what they thought were aliens controlling what was happening in our reality. This wasn’t good news for anyone. The rules were very clear that the veils were meant to maintain enough space matter between them so they never crossed paths. Everyone and everything lived in their separate parallel universes and no one knew they were a part of the multiverse. Sure they had heard of the possibilities of other planets and life elsewhere. T...

Perfect Misery

Weekly Contest #303

contains abuse and suicide Perfect Misery I should have known better he was perfect for me. He was so perfect for me, he was too perfect for me. In fact he was just perfect misery. Our whole relationship was a complete lie from start to finish. The difference between start and finish was my vision changing from completely rose tinted to crystal clear 20/20 vision. Leaving me with the knowledge, Chester Bellamy with his intense emerald stare would have been perfect in an illusionary world of horror. We met online like most couples these days...

A Pan of Tomato Soup and a Blog about People’s Opinions.

Weekly Contest #302

A Pan of Tomato Soup and a Blog about People's Opinions. Human's are some of the most complex creatures on the planet. Ask yourself how they can all be so different from each other yet share consistent basic needs? Some can be the cruelest, most violent, evil, inconsiderate, power hungry and selfish of the animal kingdom. Yet some have the other extreme of being the kindest, thoughtful, most selfless, good intentioned consideration and are the nicest of the animal kingdom. I get that most humans fall somewhere in between the extremes and li...

Never take a Sweet from a Stranger

Weekly Contest #301

Content Warning: Themes of kidnapping, violence, and psychological manipulation Never Take a Sweet from a Stranger Never take a sweet from a stranger. That was one of the first things Paula learned as a child. However when the uber driver offered her a werthers original she couldn’t resist accepting. With their creamy butterscotch flavour, werthers had such happy memories for her until now. *** The uber jumped from 10 minutes to 1 minute arrival time as Paula clicked confirm and pay. It was almost as if the driver had been near her house ...

Memory Lane

Weekly Contest #300

This story contains grief and broken family. Memory Lane People say that you can’t revisit the past but you can. That’s what a photo is. It’s a portal back into the past. When you stare at it you can be right back there remembering the moments of the day you took that very photo. The laughter and the joy that went with it, or the tears, maybe the hugs that occurred before or after it was taken. The past is there right in front of your very eyes, just waiting to take you back to a part of your past that lives in memory lane. *** Sheila lo...

Good as we Are

Weekly Contest #299

Good as we Are Natasha and Barney had been together for ten years and still Barney hadn’t popped the question. He liked to say, ‘we are good as we are’ a lot. So Natasha had decided she should be the one to ask him. Her plan was to wait until valentine’s week and try to get him to ask her, with the fallback of her own proposal to him. She waited until February intending to celebrate the 7 days of Valentines, including proposing to him on the correct day. The days ran from the 7th-14th as follows: 7th Feb - Rose Day 8th Feb - Propose Day 9t...

Focus Layla

Weekly Contest #296

Focus Layla This story contains some swearing “Hello brain are you in there? I can’t hear you today! Did I die and not realise it? ‘Hello please say something, let me know I’m still alive please!” I can feel the panic starting inside as time ticks by, still nothing. My head is completely silent! Quieter than a wasteland with rolling tumbleweeds. Something is not right? Did my brain grow legs and run away in the night? I’ve never known such deafening silence in my head. Sure it’s only been a few moments, but I’m so used to having noise pre...

The White Door

Weekly Contest #295

The white door It’s been locked since the day we moved in no one can find the key anywhere. Nobody has a clue if, and what it leads to if they could access it. It’s a locked door with no key and it sits in the middle of our bedroom wall in the room I share with my younger sister, Chloe. It’s a strange plain white door with the number 13 written on the top of it, also in white. It merges in completely with our white wall. Even the door handle is white, making it blend in so well. It’s almost invisible and most people completely miss it. When...
