Crimson

Twenty four year old Rebekah Danvers lay perfectly still, her dark blue eyes searching for the target through her rifle scope. She took in a deep breath and let it out slowly, focusing on what was ahead of her. The black car pulled up to the back of the nightclub rather than the front, just as she predicted. Two bodyguards came out. Then the target; a man in his late forties, dressed in an expensive suit and carrying a briefcase, which Rebekah knew would contain money. She had been following this man for only a short while. He seemed more w...

Where Hearts Should Stay

Ava and Jordan Martinez packed up and moved into a house in Penrose Falls, that had belonged to Jordan’s family for generations. The place needed fixing up, but it was nothing that would break the bank. Ava loved the vintage style charm immediately. She kept most of the décor and furnishings the same, only replacing the stuff that was beyond repair. Jordan took on the cosmetic renovations himself. They were pleased with the end results. Often, Ava couldn’t help but recall when she first saw Jordan and the impact, he would have on her life… ...

Weekly Contest #105

Regina Clarke made the choice to return to Grendel Crescent, when she heard that her father was dead. She had run away from home as a teenager, unwilling to go through with an arranged marriage. Regina never really liked Frank, even when they were younger. She suspected he harboured a crush on her, which she found kind of repulsive. The Ramirez and Aldridge families had known each other for years and so figured, why not get the kids together? Of course, it didn’t go according to plan. When she was eighteen, Regina crossed paths with Ezra Cl...

You Never Know

Weekly Contest #104

"Are you coming tonight?" Justine sighed. "Of course. I even have a costume that I wont feel ridiculous wearing." Faith laughed at the resigned tone in her friend's voice. "Cool, just making sure. Pick me up in about half an hour? Wouldn't do to show up at Lesley's place too early." "Fine." Justine pressed end call on her phone and glanced in the hallway mirror. The pale makeup made her blue eyes stand out. She buttoned up the peacock blue waistcoat and tucked in her crisp white shirt. Then she put on the matching jacket. Her blonde wig onl...

Light It Up

Weekly Contest #102

Sydney Olsen stepped out of the building on Bradford Stret, where she lived in a one bedroom apartment. She stood still for a moment, feeling the warmth of the sun on her face. She covered her eyes with sunglasses, slipped the 205 door key into her pocket and then set off. It only took about an hour for her to walk around three or four blocks. Sometimes she cut through the local park. Every now and then she would also stop at the SilverLeaf cafe' to rest, before going back home. On this particular day Sydney went inside, feeling kind of hun...

The Return

Weekly Contest #100

Elise Kennedy was in her kitchen, preparing dinner. She'd already put the chicken in the air fryer and made up a satay sauce. All she had left to do, was the rice. She filled up a pan, sprinkled in some salt and left it on the stovetop to boil. Once that was done, she poured in the rice, which would take about ten minutes to cook. Elise went upstairs for a quick shower, unsure about what to wear. She blow dried her hair and ran a brush through it, then applied a small amount of makeup. She also put silver hoops in her ears. She chose a turq...

Sacrifice

(This is a continuation of the first story I posted on Reedsy, called The Dark Circles. It fit this writing prompt, so I took a chance and managed to finish the story in a way that I was happy with.) Rachel’s eyes opened, but she couldn’t see. A cloth was tied around her head. Chains bound her wrists and ankles. The collar on her neck also felt metallic and was tight and very uncomfortable. She thought she might be in the back of some kind of truck. Rachel sat up sharply. A harsh but low toned voice came from a space in front of her. “So, u...

Marcella Harvey sat on a bench at Holbrook Park Station, waiting for the train to arrive. She adjusted her glasses and continued reading her book, only glancing up every now and then, to check the time. The train was late, but that didn't bother her much. She was in no hurry to reach her final destination. However, the platform was now becoming rather full and some of the other passengers were getting impatient.
