James A. Brandt served with distinction in the United States Army for more than two decades, from August 1989 to December 2011. After graduating from Western Branch High School in Chesapeake, Virginia, he enlisted as a Fire Support Specialist (Forward Observer) and trained at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, before deploying to Panama for his first combat mission during Operation Just Cause. The years that followed took him across three assignments at Fort Lewis, Washington, two tours in Korea, postings at Fort Stewart, Georgia, and Fort Irwin, California, and two additional combat deployments to Iraq.
Retirement from the Army in 2011 didn't mean stepping away from service. James went on to serve as a liaison between the Center for Army Lessons Learned and the Stryker Brigades, then as a Special Task Force Instructor for the Marine Corps in Okinawa, Japan. After this extensive military career, he spent time in the corporate sector before settling into his current role as Coffee County Veterans Service Officer in New Brockton, Alabama, work he finds deeply meaningful.
James holds an Associate Degree in Humanities, a Bachelor's degree in Business Management, and a Master's degree in Business Administration. It was during this academic journey that he discovered an unexpected passion for writing.
At home, James is married to Chandra Denise Morrison-Brandt. He's the father of Amber Buchanan, Sydnie Epps, Justin Brandt, and Cameron Turner, and grandfather to Liam McDonald and Ryker Pelloni; a family that reflects the same dedication he's brought to every chapter of his life.
