I've always been fascinated by what lies beneath the obvious, particularly with what's behind people, decisions, and unexpected moments. And so I've never accepted the "what" as a complete answer. I demand to know the "how" and the "why" behind it. I need to know what lies beneath the surface, because there's always a "how" and a "why"—why people feel the way they do, how they're motivated, how relationships shape our lives, and why we let them.
To me, writing has always been where curiosity and creativity meet, but I'm not your typical "author". I fell in love with writing when I took a creative writing class in junior high school, but writing was not the profession I ended up pursuing. As an adult my writing tends to be inspirationally driven, although one of my passions is to explore the emotional connections we form with the people, animals, and places that matter most. I'm also passionate about looking closer, digging deeper, sharing stories I find that are hidden inside everyday moments, and to write about the sometimes evasive meaning behind what others might take at face value.
When I'm not writing, I'm usually learning something new, researching something that caught my attention, chasing answers to life's endless questions - and usually asking one question too many - or spending time with my dogs. Last thought: one of my most firm beliefs is that the best stories don't just entertain us—they help us understand ourselves and each other a little better.
