Meg tasted a teaspoonful of her latest attempt at what was supposed to be her Gran’s Comforting Coffee Cake, and waited. In less than a minute a worm of unease began to twist in her gut, and her heart rate began to climb. “Uh!” Meg took a gulp of the lukewarm peppermint tea she had standing by for just such an outcome, and followed it with a deep, steadying breath.
