Friday the thirteen

Friday. The thirteen. One foot out the door, and there she stood. Her feline black paws leaving little traces of dirt. Perfect. I crouched down. A bad sign? Really? I roughly patted her head, and it yearned to hide in my backpack. Alright, it’s time for that afternoon shift! She just leaped right in. Her small claws clung to the zip. A free ride around the city, I guess. Those little ears wavered silently in the wind. I mean, I would be already half a mile away from this creature, but it was what helped my patients. People bustled in thro...

Just give me five more minutes

The alarm went off at 6:30. Wait. That's weird. I always woke up at seven. I frowned. The sound felt irritating. Way too... Wait a second. This is not my alarm. I jolted up. Who was this? Who would dare change my alarm and ruin my sleep. Don't tell me... I slumped back. Onto the soft pillow. I mean... We were just friends. But he knew there was only one rule. DON'T RUIN MY SLEEP AT ANY COSTS! Unless he had a really good reason. But as soon I opened the door. The faint aroma of coffee filled the room. A mug laid there. A note taped in a m...

Until Death Don't Do Us Apart

Maybe he’d kiss me. Well, I wasn’t sure about it. Maybe he hated me? I would agree. I basically had no sense of charisma. Maybe it was just a prank? That could explain why my friend pushed me to do it. And the reason why it was all set in a cinema. But it was something. After work. Where no one basically talked to me. Or even looked. It felt special. Just chatting about our crazy lives. Me as a newspaper writer. And him as the theatre owner. Well, that was how the days went on. We would meet right at that cinema. His hand rose in a wave....

Worst school trip in history?!

I came, because I had nothing better to do. The warm light radiated the room. Washing over the high ceilings, beige floors, and pale walls. Silver engravings caught the light. A beautiful field trip. To an art museum. I ended up somewhere in the middle. A camera clutched in hands. I snapped a picture of the artefact before me. My friends grinned at me. And that should have been my warning. It all happened in a second. My bag was snatched off my shoulder. “HEY!” I wailed. But it was too late. They already bolted across the hall. Straight to...

Into those autumn leaves

I raced to her window. She was there. That young little girl. Now all grown up. I sat on the railing. The cold iron biting into my paws. It’s surprising! I thought she would never come back. It had been so long now. I banged the window. Tap. Tap. She froze. Her eyes were full of daze. But she approached. And glared. Hey Kid! Well, where are those little hugs?! She didn’t move. Her face laid next to mine. What’s she doing? Is she going to prank me now? Oh, bring it on! “Hello there, little fellow!” WHAT?! Didn’t she name me? Hello?! You na...

And those that don't look like half an apple!

Food. That was all I could ever think of. An apple was my first choice But my head ached. And I knew that could never please my stomach. I peeked into a café. Those customers having luscious croissants, with the sweet aroma of tea. I go in. And the prices were crazy cheap! I scrambled into my purse. Not a single penny. Why do I have a purse, if I am not really using it! AWW! Guess I’m going home starving! That was, until he slammed right into me. “Hey!” I sighed. Why is my bad luck killing me! “Here’s a snack! Eat it up fast!” He held out ...

I Just Wanted Some Salad Chips

It was almost done. After all those head-first crashes into poles across streets, tripping all over the place, and having tried on an animal love scent perfume, by my science-obsessed friend, left me with random animals chasing me across a grass field; my summer bucket list just only had one thing left. And that was a packet of 'Salad Chips'. Ever since, I had robbed my best-friend's packet of chips, a month ago, life had never been the same. Of course! It tasted delicious, but it felt extravagant. And I went crazy for another. I had search...

Her Yellow Scarf

Ugh! Why is Aki such a big back! I pushed through the tree branches. SMACK. I fell right unto the ground. *** Muffled whispers pulled me back to consciousness. A figure stood over me. “What’s your name?” My head was still spinning. “Kai… why?” The figure gleamed. “You’re in the way…” My stomach tightened. “…what?” Metal flashed in his hand. He lowered his voice. “Thank you… but I’m sorry. I have to do this.” He struck. Clean. *** Why is the light so bright now?! Soft fluorescent light flooded the view. Something kept beeping somewhere out of...

You Were Never The Victim

What have I done? I stood at the very edge. Staring at the distance from the rooftop. How that person fell. Until the body got swallowed by the snow. A single push. Forced. "Now will you let me go?" I glared at the masked figure. "Why are you involving me in this? What-" His hand cupped my chin. Eyes glared deep. "Keep quiet." A flash of metal glinted in one wrist. "Or you know the consequences." *** Golden lights flooded the scene. Above, crystal chandeliers hung too low for comfort. Swinging slightly wherever the crowd went. I stood on p...

Extra Credit

SMACK My sneakers squeaked loudly against the floor, as I scrambled to catch my balance in the middle aisle. Muffled whispers erupted from the back row. "Get up there Chloe!" Sarah hissed from the corner, barely containing her excitement. "I just know it! Mr. Vance is going to drop a pop quiz," Leo whispered from the row ahead, "Just convince him to postpone it." "Work your magic!" Mia nudged my shoulder. Before I could even strangle them, the heavy oak doors of the classroom swung open. The teacher walked in and dropped his worn leather br...
