As both an editor and an author of more than 60 published titles , I have a special appreciation for the business of putting good books in young people's hands. With twenty plus years of experience working with major publishing houses, including Scholastic, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, and DK, I've worked on children's fiction and nonfiction books, both for the trade and educational markets. For a number of years, I also taught fiction writing at a continuing education venue. This opportunity helped clarify for me the needs of writers who are just starting the long road that leads (hopefully) to publication.

When I work with a client, I like to tailor my approach to the person's needs. In some cases that means helping the writer to flesh out ideas, themes, and characters. When a complete body of work is submitted, then I carefully review the manuscript and make specific notes on how to improve the text. I also provide an extensive overview of the manuscripts strengths and weaknesses. Some works require multiple revisions; others don't. I generally find that writers who embrace revision have happier results.

As I new author, I was unsure what to expect when reaching out to editors. Catherine gave me pricing for multiple services, and the resulting editorial assessment offered great advice delivered in a friendly, considerate tone. She offered examples from literature and real life to illustrate her points and left me energized to take my draft to the next level.

First of all, I want to say, as a first-time children's picture book author and illustrator, it can be a bit intimidating submitting a request for editor services to already very accomplished editors and writers of the same genre, and I have to say this was the case when I made my request to Catherine. I submitted requests to only 3 editors for copywriting & proofreading services, the final lo...
