Overview

I am an illustrator with more than 20 years experience, working in book cover illustration and design, editorial and advertising. I graduated with a degree in Illustration from Brighton Polytechnic before moving to London, working from Great Western Studios in Westbourne Park. In 2004 I moved to France with my family where I now live and work.

I often work using a combination of stencils, hand printing and brushwork and I paint with household emulsion paint. I like to use textures of wood and metal as backgrounds and sometimes incorporate 3D elements in my designs. I also enjoy working with type and often incorporate words and lettering into the design, in both flat and 3D.

I have worked with most of the larger publishing houses in my time including PenguinRandomHouse (UK and US), Harper Collins (UK and US), Macmillan (UK), Houghton Mifflin (US), Faber and Faber (UK), Harper Collins (UK and US), Time Warner (UK), Bloomsbury, Atlantic Books, Canongate, Gallimard Press (France), Arnoldo Editore (Italy), Espasa (Spain), Flammarion (France), Hetland (Denmark), Presenca (Portugal), Sartorio Editore (Italy), Weidenfeld & Nicholson, Zahar (Brazil), and more. I am also happy to work on projects, both large and small, for individual clients. My aim is to deliver exactly what the customer wants and to enjoy the experience along the way.

I have illustrated the covers of books by authors ranging from Arnold Bennett, Jean-Paul Sartre and Truman Capote to Muriel Spark, Louis de Bernieres and Hilary Mantel and also some celebrity authors such as Michael Palin, Melvin Bragg and Sandi Toksvig.

Richard P. Feynman's The Meaning of it All collects a series of public lectures from one of the greatest scientific minds of the twentieth century. What is science and what is its true value? Can a scientist believe in God? Why, in this supposedly scientific age, is there such widespread fascination with flying saucers, faith healing, astrology and alien invasion? Can there be such a thing as ... read more

I was immediately impressed by Andy because he quickly came up with an idea that showed he totally grasped the essence of my memoir. That, and his extraordinary portfolio of cover designs, gave me great confidence in working with him. I was inexperienced in the design process and needed considerable reassurance as the collaboration proceeded. Andy was very patient as well as generous with his t...
