Overview
Hello! I have worked as an editorial assistant for a children's book publisher. I have a BFA in creative writing from Minnesota State University, Mankato. I like all sorts of genres, from slice of life to fantasy to suburban detective gambling and gatcha simulators (if you know what I'm referencing with that last one you're legally required to contact me with your writing).
I spend maybe way too much time analyzing stories in the lit theory way, like studying how pop culture stories use form and format and allusions and stuff. One of my favorite pieces I wrote in college was analyzing the Venture Bros. through the old lit theorists' work. I love using that sort of knowledge to make stories better, so if you so desire I can be that pillar in your story of old stuff that may be boring to look into but can definitely enhance your work.
I also do like regular writing work too. I like writing comedy a lot, and my stories end up being a melting pot of all the genres I like; fantasy, slice of life, romance, comedy. If you have something weird and silly but with a lot of heart I'm your editor/proofer And of course, even if your work doesn't quite sound like anything I've mentioned so far still give me a thought because there isn't enough time to mention all the stories and genres I like here! I mean, maybe there is but maybe I have other things going on?
I've done professional editing work on fiction and nonfiction projects (including a choose your own adventure series! Those are hard! But if you have a choose your own adventure book let me know!) I have primarily worked on children's nonfiction, but have edited children's fiction series as well. I have professional experience fact checking, proofreading, and many more of the little steps that a book takes along the way to publication.
I would love to be a fun mentor/editor/assistant/Yoda to your Luke Skywalker/etc. for whatever project you're working on. I love hearing from passionate people trying to make their stories the best they can be. I can pass my industry know how onto you and help give your writing that professional polish, as well as a dash of some weird sparks of motivation from some idea I'll have reading your work.
Thank you so much for checking my page out!
