Overview
My goal is to be your partner in making your book the best it can be, and that means working to preserve your voice. It's always your choice if you want to use my suggestions or not.
Authors who work with me are reassured by regular contact via Reedsy messages with status updates. I answer messages within two business days and hope for the same in return in order to stay on schedule. If there are complicated questions, I am also available for phone or video calls.
Before beginning work, I will create a timeline that includes each phase of the editing/proofreading process and any deadlines that we need to meet in order to finish on time. For copy editing, I usually provide two rounds of editing, but we can adjust that according to your needs. After the first round of editing, I will send your manuscript back to you with changes tracked and queries included as comments. You will have time to accept or reject my suggestions, and respond to any queries. During the second round, I will make changes according to your responses to those queries, and also read through your book a second time to catch as many errors as possible. After the second round, I will again return your book with changes tracked. I'll include any other feedback as comments or in a message to allow more detail. Proofreading is usually one round but can be more if needed. We will talk about your expectations and needs and how we can best work together before I create an offer for you.
I provide all of my copy editing clients with a personalized style sheet and suggestions for how to use it to streamline your writing and publishing process. My go-to references are The Chicago Manual of Style and Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, and I prefer working in Microsoft Word. If you prefer another style manual or dictionary, I can work with that too—just let me know! (I do not use Grammarly or any generative AI tools when editing or proofreading.)
I have twenty years of experience as a copy editor and proofreader, and I love what I do more every year. Helping independent authors bring their books to life is the best part of my work.
*I am currently booking copy editing in March 2025. I have limited availability for PDF proofreading starting in January.
