The Monster is near (look in the mirror)

Horror Mystery Suspense

Written in response to: "Write a story from the POV of a witch, corpse, or supernatural creature." as part of What Goes Bump in the Night?.

I woke up still tasting the sweat on my breath and my muscles stiff;

something wicked lurks in the shadows.

a knock at the window disturbs my sleep

I got up in a fright,

from a dream of what goes bump in the night

and truly what a horrendous sight,

the grotesque creature lurking just out of sight.

Was it real or was I merely dreaming,

I try to keep my cool ,but inside I'm screaming.

the horrors untold,

my soul was its to hold.

I turn on the lights in my bathroom mirror,

I peer inside in anticipation, when suddenly in abject horror,

I see a monster looking back at me,

She's wearing a blue dress, so much blue is all I see.

was I summoned or did she summon me?

what is this strange creature of light staring back at me?

she looks at me as if I'm the beast, the night creature,

I stretch out my hand towards her.

I'm not sure what will happen when light meets darkness,

but I must know, must take the chance with this.

Will i stay, will she go

I must go on with this horror show

Boogey man underneath the bed

Reaches out to grab my legs

Pulling me deep down under

I cling tight to the covers

To no avail,

I wake or so it seems and im in hell

Where demons dwell

Lying to me, whispering all is well.

Wake up! Wont someone come wake me up

I drink from the filth filled cup

Reaping what i had sown in the land of the living,

A nightmare, i pray im only dreaming.

Shadows creeping up the wall

I scream, you can hear it down the hall,

I cry out, no one to answer my call

I leap off the ledge, no one to catch my fall.

Wake up! For the end is near!

Wake up! And swallow all your fears

Dry your tears,

Wake up! Please, i beg of you, someone, anyone,

Wake me from this terror in the night,

Devils on my shoulders, whispering

Like a snake in the grass hissing

And i disappear from sight, no one notices me missing

Isnt someone out there?

To save me from whats in here

Help! Help! A girl cries wolf, but the monster is real

And danger lurks, to lust, to hunt, to steal and to kill

Ive lived a thousand lifetimes,

And died a million more oftentimes

Just to end up in this place called living,

And death visits, the gift, that keeps on giving.

Fire fire in my lungs, i breath deep

And pray against this thing, my soul it wants to keep.

No one understand me,

No one truly sees me, it weeps.

Wouldnt you love me?

If onlyyou’d open your eyes to see?

Come closer my dear, i have something to tell you,

To hide from the beast, is futile, i will utterly consume you.

Wake me up! For you are no friend of mine

You claim me as your own, call me yours,

Till you’ve pulled my soul apart, ripped it asunder

I gaze into a face i barely recognize and there is she.

She is me,and i am also she.

I realize with horror, the monster all along…. Was myself

Fractured and broken, a shadow self.

Which one belongs to the world of waking,

And which should lay down to rest and slumber, sleeping.

Save me!

Help me!

This cannot be!

She cannot be me!

I am me, and she is not me, yet there stands we

Oh no, surely this cannot be

A lie turned into the truth

And the truth is bitter on the way down

I dance my jesters dance, the foolish clown of the town

And make merry with the onlookers, who laugh at my down trodden face

Seal the deal with blood on her face,

wake up! This thing is sinister,

wake up! your true enemy is near, just look in the mirror!

An afterimage, for she stole my soul and my identity before i even noticed something amiss,

Im left on the outskirts of this dark abyss.

Abandoned and scattered,

All hopes and dreams shattered,

What goes bump in the night is never kind to those that find it,

The road to hell was paved with good intentions to those that walk it.

Its wide and broad, and yet it is never full

Wonderful wonderful world of dreams, has nothing on this

A full moon,

But no worries my sweet, we’ll be home soon.

Walking down the red, blood-stained road,

We’re fare away from kansas,

And i shall paint my sins upon your empty canvas

The monsters that come out to play,

On all Hallows' Eve, a very special day.

They hunt for their maker

And the queen of darkness is a cruel master,

She is the task-keeper, the ultimate law giver

A liar, and a deciever

Do not walk with her, nor trust her

You would do well,

To stick to where the light dwells

And the shadows flee, before sunrise

The worse has past now, you may open your eyes.

A dream within a dream,

Nothing is as it seems,

Click your heels two times, thrice

Fool me once, shame on me, but the fault is mine, if you fool me twice

A fool is wise once in a lifetime

A wise man is foolish, most of the time,

When he lets pride win each time,

Well then im the biggest fool, betting my life away

Thinking a hero would come to save me, steal me away.

Ive made friends with the shandows,

And left my sould in the gallows

With the fear that left me hallow

And i drowned in shallow water,

Held down by her, and who is this her?

Well, her is she, she is me, and i am she, who is me.

A fever dream, surely,

Finally i break dawn early,

The night has left me,

I look into the mirror one last time,

I made peace, with the monster, staring back at me.
