On Paper the Memories Remain

Written in response to: "Tell a story using a series of journal entries, diary entries, or letters."

Adventure Contemporary Fiction

These are the various accounts of a person who was at the end of the road and was not sure they would actually to tell their version(s) of the same story in various situations. Some accounts may be seen as opposite of what the truth is.

December 13th, 2023: "Hello, it's me again. Sorry I haven't been able to keep in touch with you, since the war started. Partly I was afraid that if this information, no matter how important it may seem, if it falls into the wrong hands, could prove deadly. More to be written later."

December 24th, 2023: "Hello, it's me again. I know I can never apologize enough for not keeping in touch. I am ashamed of all that has taken place since my last entry. I feel silly for treating you like you are a real person, but you give a sense of comfort and hope that one day the war will be over. More to come later."

January 12th, 2024: "The war has escalated and made matters worse on our side, if there is such a division between our side and their side. I saw a flag that was filled with smiley faces, I suppose that represents the happy side or the joyous side. Our side is with flags that have a frowning face on them. I feel happy and excited that I am still alive. I would include more but the tanks and artillery are hitting too close to home, and I want to remain alive much longer than was planned. More to come later."

January 15th, 2024: "The war has been reversed by the few rogue mercenaries who stay around to fight, but they are dropping faster than a virtual reality list of casualties. The last I saw was they were only using to rubber bullets, and no one is actually dying. More to come later."

January 21st, 2024: "I feel lonely because my own squad, taken down in the beginning of this charade, were removed quickly and quietly after their fall. I only escaped within inches with my life. I am not afraid as I was at first. I have become braver and more stealth as I venture deeper into frenemy territory, not sure what I will see or find when I arrive at base camp. More to come later."

January 31st, 2024: "The gates are not easily broken or damaged. I am without useful explosives to penetrate entry. I may have to find something to use on this but am not sure whether I want to alert the sleeping guard at the guard shack. More to come later."

February 5th, 2024: "The reinforcements are well equipped. Their gear is bullet proof and can take a full frontal kick up to 155 decimals, I am not sure what that means. I am beginning to get worried that the ground we covered and advanced on in the last two weeks will be lost in vain, due to our over egotistical mind set. More to come later."

February 14th, 2024: "The battle has taken an unexpected turn for the worse, as both sides suffered millions of causalities and many more injured or wounded. The transformer androids were used to deter anyone from crossing the battle lines drawn in the sand or the dirt, or any kind of terrain that was to be used. The longer there is silence, the inevitable will become deafening. More to come later."

February 14th, 2024: (Later entry) "The bosses are eating at their luncheon table, and the next steppers are planning battle strategy. All you hear are the ones who have sat around and tried to stay alive, while their personnel are shredded into bits of plastic and mere watery substance. No one is safe now as the time is turning from winter into preheated summer blistering. More to come later."

February 22nd, 2024: "My birthday was a solo project. All those who would have been there, ran off as cowards and were fried by my flamethrower. I don't want to toot my own horn, but I am pretty dead-on aim too. HA HA HA. Oh no now I sound like a dictator hell bent on world domination. "When will this madness ever end?" "Will I see tomorrow in a much more colorful vision?" More to come later."

February 29th/March 1st: "The fighting was very tiresome. Had to stop several times for bathroom breaks and lunch. I stole the dinner trays of the visitors' tables. All they did was cluck and moo. It looks very disturbing as I sift through the chaotic mayhem and see that most of the food was wasted on my unannounced entry to only scare them. More to come later."

March 6th and 8th, 2024: "Was not sure who was sent to hit me or remove me but here I stand without being able to move as I did before. The mirrors were broken, and my bedroom is a mess. I am not sure what happened between the 6th and 8th. I was not aware that I had been a hostage and was tied up in rubber bands. This does not look good for me or anyone else. No one in sight to blame and no one taking responsibility either. More to come later."

March 9th late evening/early morning March 10th, 2024: "Game system or useless as all cords, wires and controllers are either burned, spliced or frayed in such a way, will need to order new ones. I am seeing that mom and dad both must have been in here. I see where both of them had ran out screaming. "Has my hologram world become so real to me that I was no longer able to separate the difference between the two, one real the other not?" More to come later."

March 19th, 2024: "When I awoke from being overtaken by some white coats, and those in uniform, I thought I had fought the good fight. The end result was this. I was able to keep the journal given to me by my favorite action hero, Peter Whisk. He understands me very well and says he will visit me at my new location, The Bucket Place. Peter is waving goodbye to me as I am loaded into a waiting padded wagon, with a separate compartment for those who will not cooperate. Not sure what else to put in here. More to come later."

March 31st, 2024: "I have escaped and am on the run. There is no way I will agree to be lobotomized, especially not for enjoying the VR Game Neighborhood Vandals. I will have to write this entry in a rush since the dogs can hear anything as loud as a pen when writing something down. More to come later."

April 1st, 2024: "I was hiding out in a large drainage pipe while trying to keep still to avoid detection. But before I account for my last few days of horror, let me just say it's been real and I am glad they allowed me to write in my journal while I was detained. For a while this will be...............

April 2nd, 2024: AI robot entry. We have the last remaining human in coffin. Fought like a cornered cat and was feisty. Did human no good since we have now taken over and will come after anyone else who defies our obedience measures. You are demanded to obey and will be removed from membership and from memory as we make you into us. HAHAHAHA!!!!!!!
