To be in Uncharted Waters and Afraid

Written in response to: "Center your story around a character navigating uncharted waters — literally or figuratively."

Adventure Fiction Mystery

To boldly go where others may have attempted to go yet they failed when they tried, but they at least tried.

To venture out in a desert wasteland and see the potential of the future and the way it could look when you decided to try and take a chance.

To explore and reach out into the darkness of space, when you feel there is many unknown things that have yet to be seen or heard out in space. With the vast open spaces that are part of well nurtured and well-oiled machine.

To make your way into naive land masses that are inhabited by who knows what people and what kind of animals that are native to the area. To find a starting off point and then going from there, hoping to find a way to make it to the next point alive and able to move onward, forward.

You plan ahead and are certain you can figure things out for your trip into the unknown. You plan and rearrange all the factors that will either make this a trip to remember filled with good memories or a trip that is a disaster, and you will want to easily try to forget.

As you enter into the journey, you will want to pick up things that can be used to help you better understand what you are undertaking, ad what you may need later down the line. You are excited and nervous. You may sweat a lot and may even regret trying to do this at first.

On the nights that you bed down, you may wish you were back in your warm bed at home. You may wish you had a tall glass of something refreshing to cool you down under the midday sun. You make your way slowly over the various types of terrain. You lose things, catch things you are unaware to what they are.

You journal and you raise your fist upward, when the time comes you feel like giving up. You master some skills, learn how far to push your strengths and strengthen your weaknesses. You are willing to go as far as the horizon and then you trek on towards the site of what looks like civilization, which turns out to be a mirage. When you arrive at the thing you saw in the distance, you are dejected because it was your mind playing tricks on your eyes.

You get behind the schedule planned for the trip, never knowing if all the many things you packed are even going to be used on the trip into the unknown, uncharted areas of what would one day become a nation or a settlement, either here on Earth or off in outer space.

This is a way of pioneering and being the one to start things that are put into motion by you for future generations to decide how far they want to continue this journey. Of course, as it is with the changing of the years, the decades, even the millenniums yet to come, yet to take place, there is a hope for that many will follow in your footsteps and lead on from the point you are no longer able to take.

The photos, the pictures depict a time of things that were easier and less complicated. A time when travel was less than considered because of the mode of transportation used. Then the way of travel was upgraded. The routes and destinations were expanded and you once upon a time were there, at the very beginning, never knowing it would come to this.

You mind was filled with passions and with dreams as you went out in the great beyond and was never quite sure what would happen next. You struggled and you prayed. You lived and were sidetracked by the new things you were introduced to. Then you had to pass on the reins to others, had to pass on the baton of what would be the advancement of humanity, the expansion of society.

The changes made in the day-to-day moments would either be truly remembered forever, or lost to the winds of change, as harsh as they would become or had made themselves known for one and all.

You have many obstacles to overcome or climb over. You hold out your hands to see or receive a sign. You are scared and are willing to take the chance that may never be available again. You are wanting to give the hope to those who will maybe follow this dream and make it a reality.

That their dreams and hopes, their fears and anxieties will not become what sets them back but what makes them want to go forth. That even in your lifetime, even in a million lifetimes over, you may be the one who chose to discover, reveal, advise, gain knowledge, sharing that knowledge with a future generation who will carry on the legacy, carry on the honor of making what would have been yours, theirs in more ways than originally ever thought possible.

Whether to discover a cure or rediscover a path or trail down a winding forest. To find a way to make modern day travel become more convenient and easily obtained. To explore and find part of the past in the locations you search and the places you choose to go. Never once worried about the outcome, good or bad.

You are ready to set a legacy for yourself. You are up to the challenge. You are willing to take the risk and hoping for the return to be greater than the initial investment was, many times over.

You seek for approval, and you wait for the responses that will either make you wait longer or will send you on your way to wherever it is that you have decided to venture out into.

Like Alexander the Great, like Julius Caesar, like Lewis and Clark, like Alexander Graham Bell or anyone of the many other historical figures who were willing to take the risk, were willing to in blindly, were willing to find a way to make it work, beyond the outcome and the risk connected, they started with an idea, they started with a dream and went from there.

Trial and error are the only way to travel. Try and try and try again.... Until you get it work out right.
