Officer Davis’ Mission

Drama Suspense Thriller

This story contains themes or mentions of sexual violence.

Written in response to: "Tell a story with a series of calls, emails, and/or text messages." as part of Final Destination.

Officer Davis sat in her office in a police station, looking at her new mission, which was investigating someone whom the police suspected as a sex offender. “The force has suspected this guy to be a sex criminal for a while,” thought Officer Davis, “I am logging on, and messaging this guy.” “My mission is to try to see if he really is a creep, and then try to find a time so that the rest of the task force can search his house.” Officer Davis then logged on to a messaging website named Partnerfinder, and found the target, who was named Chris Green. “Here it goes, I hope he buys my story.”

Officer Davis: Hello, I think we have met before.

Chris Green: Where have we met before?

Officer Davis: We met at a coffee shop a month ago. I was sitting at a corner looking at you.

Chris Green: Why were you looking at me?

Officer Davis had been following him for a while, and learned about his hobbies and favorite foods.

Officer Davis: You ordered a vanilla coffee. That is one of my favorites.

Chris Tuner: Did we talk back then?

Officer Davis: We did. You told me that you like to go to ball games at the local stadium.

Officer Davis had never met the man, and was hoping that as a sexual deviant, he would be more interested in talking to her rather than investigating her story.

Chris Green: Oh really, I think we actually did talk back there. What else did I tell you about me?

Officer Davis: You like to go running in the park. Particularly during noon where there were less people.

Officer Davis had an idea as to why he really preferred going to the park when there were less people.

Chris Green: I actually told you that? That is nice, did I also ask if we can go running there sometime.

Officer Davis: You did, and I said that I was available during the weekend.

Chris Green: What time are you available at the weekend? We should get to know each other sometime.

Officer Davis: I am available Sunday afternoon if that is fine.

Officer Davis knew that he was busy during that time, and wanted him to keep talking.

Chris Green: I am busy that time. You sure you can’t make time this week.

Officer Davis: I work at a local restaurant. I don’t have a lot of time to myself.

Chris Green: That is on you. You have bad time management.

Officer Davis: I know and I am sorry. I just haven’t been on a date in a while.

Officer Davis thought about sounding vulnerable for weeks in order to draw out the predator that she suspected was currently talking to.

Chris Green: I can be your first day in a while. After all, if you can’t find anyone else to take care of you, I can do a good job.

Officer Davis: I have time next week. When are you available?

Chris Green: I have time during Saturday morning. Can you make it then?

Officer Davis: I can make it, but I will only have two hours of free time.

Chris Green: That is good enough. I look forward to talking to you. Maybe I can teach you stuff that can help you in life.

Officer Davis then logged off the website and thought about what she just wrote. “So far,” thought Officer Davis, “I only scratched the surface, and when I message him again two or three days from now, I will be able to learn more.”

The next time Officer Davis messaged Chris Green was three days after their first conversation. Officer Davis looked at an old newspaper, which stated that two local women were missing. One was aged nineteen and the other aged twenty. Their names were Elizabeth Nelson and Jane Carter. “They had so much life ahead of them,” thought Officer Davis, “I need to help them, because if I don’t, I don’t know if anyone else would.”

Officer Davis: Hello Chris, how has your day gone?

Chris Green: It was good, though we have better things to talk about. Tell me about yourself.

Officer Davis: I have a job at a restaurant. I like my job as I get to work with a lot of nice people.

Chris Green: No, not that. I realized that I don’t know much about you. Can you tell me how tall are you?

Officer Davis was five foot ten inches but decided to choose a different height that she believed would be less threatening to him.

Officer Davis: I am five feet three inches.

Chris Green: That is nice. I like women who are shorter. Their figure is more expressed that way. Tell me more about yourself.

Officer Davis: I like music. Do you like jazz?

Chris Green: No, not that. What kind of clothing do you like to wear?

Officer Davis: I like to wear jeans and jacket. It gets cold outside.

Chris Green: But you shouldn’t. It looks better on women when they wear shorts and swimsuits.

“Oh my God, when is this going to end,” thought Officer Davis, “if this keeps up, I will get nauseous.”

Officer Davis: Yes, I do like to wear swimsuits. I buy them at a local clothing store named the Attraction.

Officer Davis deliberately chose that store as she had seen him loitering around it, looking at the mannequins.

Chris Green: I like to go shopping there. I go there often.

“Of course you do,” thought Officer Davis. She then changed the subject, hoping that he would talk about something that would be more incriminating.

Officer Davis: I went to a local college named Purpletree. Where did you go?

Chris Green: I only briefly went to college, but I didn’t like it. I have friends at Purpletree College though, and I have been there before.

“I got you, you son of a bitch,” thought Officer Davis, “Elizabeth and Jane went there.”

Officer Davis: I keep my stuff from college in my closet, where do you keep yours?

Chris Green: I would keep them between my kitchen sink. I don’t know why, but I like to store things there.

Officer Davis: I was able to convince my boss to give me time off this Saturday. Are you still available to go to the park then?

Chris Green: Nah, I want to go shopping at the Attraction. I have enough money to buy you a new swimsuit.

Officer Davis: Aw that is so sweet. I would love to do that.

Chris Green: Then it is a date. I will see you this Saturday.

Officer Davis quickly logged off. She was shaken after the last conversation but knew that she now had both a time to search his house, and a place to look for evidence. “This is for Elizabeth and Jane you piece of shit,” thought Officer Davis, “the next time I see you, you will be behind bars.”

Officer Davis and her team raided Chris Green’s house that Saturday, and when searching beneath the kitchen sink, they found possessions that belonged to Elizabeth and Jane, confirming that he was their murderer. “You will hang for this,” thought Officer Davis. Within a year, Chris Green was executed for their murders.
