A man sits alone on the edge of a bed. The door to the room remains closed as he sits alone with an overhead light from a fan covering the room in a light orange glow. The man has bags under his eyes and his eyes a dim red as if he had been crying. Now, in this world, people are often able to appear out of nowhere. No one knows how or why, they simply can.
...
The door to the room the man sits in slowly opens, maybe by a gust of wind as the door was not firmly closed. But as the door slowly creaks further open, a woman wearing a short white dress-clearly made from thin linen. As it was almost see through but wasn’t enough to see the woman’s assets. The woman hosted a large smile as her skin seemed to glow with a holy light as she seemingly glided in across the floor, not making a sound. The woman's hair was a golden brown, her curls fell to the bottom of her shoulder blades. Her deep hazel eyes able to pierce the most guarded heart.
“Hello my friend.” She said with a slight giggle as she hopped onto the bed, now sitting next to him. It was late into the night; he had failed to fall asleep as tears kept him awake. Now his eyes looked at the angelic woman he had known for so long and wondered what she was doing here.
“Wh-what are you doing here?” The man turned to her, the woman kicking her feet back and forth as they dangled off the edge of the high bed.
“I’m here for you silly.” She touched his nose as she suddenly laid back onto the bed, her finger pointing at the ceiling. Her pointer finger soon imitated the circular motion of the fan.
“But it’s...” He turned to look at the digital clock at his bedside. “It's twelve thirty-five pm.”
“Oh, I know, I half expected you to be asleep by now. But once I knew you needed someone to be with you, I rushed over. Don’t you have classes today?” The woman asked, sitting back up and turning to the man, no longer imitating the fan.
“I’ve been excused from them. I just couldn’t handle it all. I needed a break. A day to recover.” The woman who was in her early twenties smiled a bright smile at him.
“I understand that. I used to hate classes; you were the only reason I made it through them. Hmm... I wonder if I ever said thank you for all the times you helped me understand the course material, or simply talking to me? I know I’m a handful sometimes.” She giggled. That soft laugh reached deep into the man’s heart, piercing it. Another tear rolled down the man’s cheek.
“Are you seriously still crying? You big baby.” She punched him in his arm lightly in a joking manner. “Don’t you know it’s unmanly for you to be crying in front of a lady such as myself.” She took on a haughty yet joking manner.
“I just missed you.” He used the sleeve of his shirt to wipe away the tears.
“I missed you too.” She responded, wrapping him in a sudden hug. The man could feel a large wave of warmth flowing into him. It was...comforting. It felt safe; it felt like love.
“I’m sorry I can’t keep appearing before you like this, though I would love too. Just to keep making fun of you and helping you cheat during exams. Though most of the time I cheated more than you did. But I can’t keep doing this, I have somewhere I have to be.”
“Please don’t g-go. You weren’t supposed to go there yet. We were supposed to graduate together.” Despite the warmth the man felt in the moment, there was nothing but coldness in his heart as he knew that she couldn’t stay. But he would fight a legion of angels if he had to keep her here. He was selfish like that.
“Well, I mean. I graduated in some sense of the word. Just not from college, but don’t worry I’ll be studying too. Though there won’t be any tests where I’m going, I’ll be studying for the fun of it.” The woman smiled at him, not feeling a ping of sadness only happiness.
“But it wasn't supposed to be you! You were only Twenty! I’m going to hunt down that drunk bastard and use his guts to spell your name!” The coldness in his heart soon pushed out the warmth from the Woman. Soon the woman began to worry though her posture or her words showed it.
“Do not take vengeance on him. For vengeance is the Lord’s. He will get what he deserves. However contrary to what you think, I hope he accepts the Lord as his savior so I can see him and watch him be dressed in glory with me.”
“I hate Him! I hate that you’re leaving me again. I wish you didn’t come. It would have been easier for me.” He pushed the girl gently off him, standing up and looking out the window, seeing a bird frozen mid-air.
“Even though you’re so incredibly smart you sure have a hot head and that stops you from thinking properly. Don’t give into your hate, if I can forgive him. So, can you. If you only do one thing in my name, please forgive him.” She sat there watching as the man realized that time had been frozen, only inside of the house did time flow. If it didn’t, then she would not be able to be seen by him or heard. Only by the grace of God was this possible.
“You know... the night before the accident happened.” He stopped, his tears choking him up as he wished to tell her the thing he had failed to before.
“I wanted...I-I wan-wanted to tell you that I loved you.” His cold guarded heart was now open and presented before the angelic woman. Yet, the woman simply laughed loudly, the man spun around.
“This isn’t funny!” He roared from embarrassment.
“I know. I know.” She repeated it as she slowly gained control of herself.
“You seriously don’t think I knew that already? I’ve known you since we were simple children who played hide and seek in each other's houses. You seriously thought I didn’t know?”
“Then-Then why didn’t you say anything?” He searched her eyes desperate for an answer. Wondering if he should guard his heart again or finally give it to someone.
“Because I wanted to tell you that when we graduated. On one of the most important days in our lives. That way you could never forget it, after all I know how bad you are with remembering dates.” She smirked at him, and he chuckled to himself. He stood there, staring at the woman he loved slowly make her way to him. He felt her fingers slowly entangle with his own as she slowly pressed her lips against his.
“My time is nearly at its end.” She told him as she pulled away, hands still entangled.
“Do not seek out revenge if you ever loved me. Seek out the Lord, for when you are lost and I’m no longer here to guide you. He will take my place.”
“Now, make sure you go and get that degree, maybe if you ever get married name one of your kids after me. Maybe, the Lord will let me be a guardian angel for one of them. I would say you but you already have one.”
“Mom." The man softly murmured. The woman nodded, soon an all-encompassing trumpet blew into the night sky.
“That’s my call, good-” Before she could finish the man eagerly kissed her for the last time. No more words or sounds were made as the warmth in the room disappeared. Time outside the house resumed, as cars drove by on the road outside.
Now the man was left alone in the room. There aren’t any phrases that could describe the type of tears that fell or the sadness that consumed him. Except that he tore his loin cloth and wept, wept until the sun rised.

Amazing story about grief, but also forgiveness. Well, done.
