Chapter Three
Rejection
The British arrived, his eyes filled with relief and concern. He hugged me tightly, and for the first time in what felt like an eternity, I felt safe and loved.
Where is Harry? Bitish ask.
I don't know where he went.
He came out a week earlier than me. I said in a low voice.
It's fine, no need to worry, I'll find him. He replied.
Aunty invited us in house.
We entered the setting room with a relaxed mind.
As we entered the room she brought two cups of tea.
I felt that time has passed very fast, without doing anything it's time for dinner. Right after dinner Aunty managed a single bed for the two of us.
Me and my brother slept out there in aunty's house that night.
When we enter the bed, my brother creates some jokes. like,
Do you know?? Why don't scientists trust atoms?
No!! I reply
Because they make up everything! He created some jokes to make me happy.
I also became much happier than before.
That night is my warmest sleep long time back
Early in the morning the British weakened me .
Wake up Aiuse. Now is the time to get ready.
Now we have to move.
Where ? I asked
Home. He replied.
Aunty handed over the cup of tea to me. I received it, saying thank you Anty.
Aunty made everything ready for me including breakfast. When I am done with washing Aunty calls me to have breakfast. As we already had a breakfast
In the middle of having breakfast my brother said,
Thank you so much aunty for keeping my brother safe and caring. The British gave thanks to aunty.
It's okay. Aunty replied.
Your brother is also the same as my youngest son. No need to say anything.
Take care of yourself and your brother too. Aunt said.
What is your job for living? Aunt ask
As an assistant truck driver. Bitish replied in smooth voice.
Wow, that great job. Learn fast and smoothly.
Okay, thank you so much. Bitish replied.
In the middle of the conversation I had already finished having breakfast.
After few minutes later Bitish also finished.
Then we get ready for the journey.
Then we started moving from the aunty's house. We reached some meters away.
Aiuse, Stop stop
Aunty ran toward me and gave me Nu. 100 and said to have a safe journey with tears in her eyes.
Thank you, I replied in a low voice.
Again my brother held my hand and started moving.
What do you want to buy? bitish asked
Nothing. I replied
This is a golden opportunity, don't miss it. He motivated me.
No, I don't want anything. Let's directly move to home. I replied.
Okay, I understood you.
He directly took me to the supermarket and asked me to choose the clothes.
I was shocked and told I don't want to and I don't need it either.
Don't show your demand. He commanded.
Then I chose one jeans pan and two T–shirt.
A big smile was seen on his face as well as mine.
After that, he took me to the lovely sweet shop to buy me some sweets, including a delicious assortment of chocolates and candies he brought for me.
Around 12:30 PM, we started moving from Phuntsholing. I saw the same things I had seen before when traveling with my father and my brother Harry. The tears, full of memories, welled up in my mind.
As we arrived home, I eagerly leapt out of the taxi and ran straight into my mother's arms, overwhelmed with relief and affection. Just as I was enveloped in her embrace, my father’s stern voice cut through the moment:
"Leave him!" he commanded from behind my mother, his tone firm and resolute.
When my father said, "He was not my son! It was the most painful thing I had ever heard. My mother, a kind and gentle woman who always worked lovingly under my father’s authority, had no choice but to let go of me.
My mother gently withdrew her embrace, and as she did, I heard a soft, reassuring voice ask, "Aiuse! Are you here?" It was Harry, coming up behind my mother, but my father wouldn’t let him get close. The separation was clear, and the warmth of my mother's touch was replaced by the cold reality of my father's harsh decision.
My father was being very rude, and I couldn’t understand why he was acting this way. He told Bitist "You and Aiuse are not my sons, okay?" in an angry tone. Bitist, shocked, said, "What are you saying, my dear father?" but my father snapped back, "You don’t have any right to speak; just be quiet." The argument between my father and Bitist went on for over an hour, but in the end, Bitist lost the fight.
The Bitish took another decision to keep me on the safer side.
Why are we not staying at home brother? I ask to
He explained that our father had rejected me to stay at home.
My eyes were filled with tears, and I felt overwhelmed with anger towards my father. I wanted to do something, but I could only cry and feel frustrated. My mind was filled with questions: Why did my father reject me? Did I do something so bad that he couldn’t accept me?
On one hand, I thought I hadn’t done anything wrong according to the rules, but he rejected me anyway. From that day on, I couldn’t help but hate my father.
The Baptist asked, “Hey, what happened? Where did you lose?” I replied, “Nothing, brother. I’m just trying to figure out where we can stay now.”
Bitist reassured me, “Don’t worry, I’ll take care of everything.” I managed a small smile, but it quickly disappeared as my worries returned.
Come here, let's go with me. I will give you more freedom and love than our father. Bitist told in a high voice.
He held my hand and took me to our cousin's house.
In the middle of the way to my cousin's house he shared how hard it was to defeat our father, and the scars of that conflict were still fresh. Despite not being able to defeat our father in this battle, he was determined to keep our family together.
In the meantime we reached our right destiny.
As soon as uncle saw us he was shocked as well.
Why are you here my dear sons? Uncle asked . This question remains unanswered.
"Hello and Good evening, Uncle [Arun]." Bitist agreed "It's a pleasure to see you.
Same to you my dear son. Uncle replied in a smooth voice.
It is unbelievable.
Uncle ordered two cups of tea for his daughter.
By the way, why are the two of you here?uncle asked again.
Just like that uncle. Bitish replied.
Why is your home too noisy?
Bitist explain all about the past situations. And Bitish requested to keep me in his home for a year.
Thank you for everything, Uncle Arun
"Excuse me, Uncle, could you please help me with this?"
Why not bitish sure I will help you.
Oh! That's the problem. Why not? Sure, I will help you. I will keep him, no need to worry.
That night we spent our night together at uncle's house.
Next day Bitish was getting ready to move Thimphu.
I told him, I also want to go with you brother.
No brother, you have to study.
If you pass in class PP I will give you a gift. He had made me excited. So I remained behind in my cousin's house.
He had returned to Thimphu, where he worked as an assistant diver, making a life for himself in the bustling city.
The British promised to take care of me, to provide the love and support that I desperately needed.
With Bitish by my side, I began to rebuild my life, slowly learning to trust and find hope once again. In Thimphu, Bitish worked tirelessly to provide for both of us. He juggled long hours as an assistant diver with sending money back to me every month. His dedication and sacrifice were awe-inspiring; it was his hard-earned money that sustained me through school and made a significant difference in my life.
Months turned into a year, and Bitish's love and support never wavered. He often called, checking on my progress in school and encouraging me to excel in my studies. He would share stories of his own adventures, giving me a glimpse of the wider world beyond our homeland, and motivating me to dream big
.
When the time came for me to join school, Bitish spared no effort in finding the right one. He diligently researched and chose Sinchula Primary School, ensuring it was a place where I could receive a good education and be nurtured in a supportive environment. He made all the arrangements, from securing a spot for me to organizing necessary supplies, uniforms, and a place to stay.
The day he accompanied me to the school was a mix of emotions. I was nervous yet excited about this new chapter. Bitish, with his ever-reliable presence, comforted me and reassured me that everything would be alright. He spoke to the teachers, letting them know about my background and circumstances, ensuring I felt welcome and at ease.
As the school bell rang and the day began, Bitish had to bid me farewell to return to his own responsibilities. He hugged me tightly, studied hard, brother. I will come back soon. He leaves me with words of encouragement and love. Though he had to go back to his job, his heart was always with me.
Bitish's visits were a beacon of hope and love, bringing a piece of the outside world into my life. He'd surprise me during holidays, bringing gifts and sharing stories of his adventures. Each visit was a reminder of the bond we shared and the strength that came from his unwavering support.
Years passed, and I progressed through my education, always with Bitish in my thoughts and prayers. His relentless dedication ensured that I not only survived but thrived. His love was the guiding light that led me to believe in myself and strive for a better future, one where I could make him proud and repay the love and care he had showered upon me.
