There were a pair of police officers checking security over a local bank. The bank had just been robbed about five minutes prior and the two officers were tasked with checking security on the left side of the bank where they had seen the team of bank robbers leave from that area. They were about to report it to their commanders when they saw a random man by the name of John Tenwrit walk by and saw a dropped bag of stolen cash.

“Should we report this,” asked one of the officers to his partner. His partner replied by saying that they didn’t need to and instead they should see what John would do next once he saw the cash. As John saw the bag, he quietly and carefully approached it, knowing that there was just a recent robbery, before finally taking the cash for himself and leaving.

“What now,” asked the police officer. The other officer instead suggested that they follow John to see what he does with the money. “Wouldn’t our commander be mad that we saw a bag of cash get taken and did nothing about it.” His partner calmly laughed, and said that he had seen officers get away with far worse infractions.

So, over the next following days, the two officers followed John to see what he did with the money, which they estimated to be in the value of roughly a million dollars. John first bought himself new house for his family as they had previously lived in a cramped apartment and now they could afford to buy a new house.

“This will be good for us,” said John as he told his wife about the development, “we will have plenty of space for ourselves and our kids can have their own rooms.” His wife was a little too happy to ask how or where he got the money, and John was happy that she didn’t bother asking.

“What do you want to do next,” asked his wife, named Alice. John then thought about what he wanted to do next before settling on a vacation to Hawaii. He reminded her about how much she always wanted to go there and had planned a vacation there years prior when they retired. Now, they no longer had to wait for retirement and could afford to go there every year. “You didn’t need to do that.” John had a light laugh and said that they no longer needed to worry about that anymore.

As the pair went on their vacation in Hawaii, the two officers also followed. The more concerned officer was a little worried that they would be going on vacation during a busy time in their yearly schedule, but his partner told him not to worry, saying that he needed to pull a few strings, but he made it work. “You worry too much,” he said, “now just calm down and follow our friend here.”

After about three days on their vacation, John and Alice began to discuss what they wanted to do next with the money they had. “I have been thinking,” said Alice, “we could use the money to start a charity to feed people in our town. I was hungry before, and I think it would be an excellent way to give back.”

John agreed that it would be an excellent idea and even proposed that they end their vacation in Hawaii early to start the charity. Alice, even though she enjoyed her time there, agreed, and the pair promptly packed their things and went back to their town named Oneforest. It would take them about three days before their charity was set up, but with the help of friends, they were able to do it with minimal delays and problems.

The two officers had continued to follow them after all this time, which was about a week. “Do we have to keep following this guy,” asked the paranoid officer, “I am pretty sure that nothing interesting will happen soon. We have been waiting for days for something interesting to happen, which you said it would, and nothing did.” His partner, constantly the troublemaker, told him to stop talking and continue following John.

One day, a hungry family came over to John’s charity for help. “Please sir,” said the father of the family, “we are hungry and haven’t eaten in days. Will you help us?” John smiled when they asked him for help, and replied that of course he would. Not only did he prepare them a hot meal with the money he had found, but he also gave them a week’s worth of food in rice, bread and other foods.

“Thank you sir,” said the father of the family, “we will never forget you.” John again smiled and said that he was happy to help them, and that if they needed anything else, they could always ask him. The paranoid officer, who was there when John helped the family, was even more annoyed as it had been ten days now with nothing new happening. Immediately after that, however, his partner promised him that he had heard something and things were about to get interesting.

“Just wait,” said the callous officer, “my source on the street says that something is about to happen, and I think I know what it is. Even if he didn’t realize it, one thing you do not do is steal from the gang that just robbed the bank.” His partner then told him that technically John didn’t steal from them. “Well, they don’t see it that way.”

When John came home that day after working at the charity, he found his wife tied up with the gang that had just robbed the bank in his house. “What do you want from me,” asked John. The gang leader explained that he had stolen from them during the bank heist. “But I didn’t steal from you. I just found the money on the ground near the bank.”

The gang leader laughed and dismissed what he just heard, saying that even if he didn’t know what that money was, he was still robbing them as it was their money. “Please,” begged John, “you can have the rest of the money. There is still plenty of it.” The gang leader cruelly rejected the offer and said that death was the only repayment that they would except. “Please no, I am begging you.”

It was of no avail as the gang leader first shot Alice with her lifeless body now limping and bleeding all over the chair that she was tied up on. “No,” screamed John as he tried to grab her. The gang leader wouldn’t let him and grabbed him by the throat. Instead of shooting him, he began to slowly and painfully suffocate poor John, and it took him about ten minutes to die in agony.

“This is why no one steals form us,” said the gang leader with a cruel laugh. He then ordered the rest of his gang to set the house on fire. One of his underlings asked him about the children. “They will be sent to an orphanage. I already arranged that.” The gang leader then personally poured gasoline all over the house, and once the house was drenched in gasoline, he personally lit the match, causing the house to go up in a terrifying inferno.

As the two police officers watched, the paranoid officer asked his partner if he knew this would happen the entire time. “Yea, I did,” he said, “a few people in life are ever this lucky. Most of the time, I believe, when good luck happens, there has to be bad luck to even it out.” His partner rolled his eyes but didn’t argue.
