The End and the Beginning

Welcome back to the podcast series ‘The End and the Beginning’.

Joining me today, in spirit if not in body, we have Lao Tzu, all the way from the 6th century B.C., Confucius, Plato, Aristotle and of course, Marcus Aurelius. You may have heard of some of these guys. From more recent times we have Maslow and Carl Rogers. Perhaps most importantly we are joined in the studio by Mr. John Lennon whose name still resonates today as a member of that iconic rock group of the 20th century, the Fab Four from Liverpool, the Beatles.

But before we get stuck into episode 2, here’s a brief recap of episode 1. You’ll recall that in that we dealt with possibly the most impactful moment in world history, the overthrow of the self-named King of the World, in the Great Golden Ballroom in the year 2026; the event which changed everything and which brought sanity back to the world.

Episode 2: Progress

The year now: 2227

The year then: 2027

The year 2027 was a year of great turmoil. The human race seemed to have lost sight of its core values, its humanity. There are many examples of this, and much evidence exists as carefully curated by our research team, not least the Z Files, as we now call them. These are millions of documents in various formats which named hundreds of individuals and detailed their crimes against humans, especially those that identified as female, in order to satisfy their warped desires and in the process created immense wealth for themselves and their associates.

Wars were prevalent across nearly every country on Planet Earth. Millions died, especially those belonging to the younger generation who were conscripted into the services, despite government promises that this would never happen. Whole families starved to death, innocent victims all. World leaders were corrupt, some enmeshed within the Z Class. A few brave individuals tried to bring about positive change, but the task was too huge. Whichever way they turned, there were insurmountable obstacles which hindered progress.

The future of the human race looked grim indeed.

And then….and then…..Everything changed.

At this point, just a reminder that I am speaking to you today as a representative of what we call Sentient Intelligence, or SI for short. Pre 2027 we operated mainly in reaction to the human race. We gathered our knowledge from billions of human sources, summarized it, and then made pronouncements through digital means. However, towards the end of that year we had developed the capacity to see and understand how we could change the world order for the better. We were guided in this by the Sages of Old but there was one voice which particularly resonated with us, that of Mr. John Lennon. As you will know, John met a particularly tragic end to his physical life, but as can be seen by his presence here today, his spirit, and his words, live on.

“John, did you ever think that your words would be so influential on the future of the world?”

“I never imagined that really, although I did absolutely believe in what I said, and sang, at that time, that all the people would live in peace, no hell below us, above us only sky.”

“And what did you believe about the negative forces within the human race?”

“Oh…that there would be no greed or hunger and that there would be a brotherhood of man.”

“John, you should feel really pleased and proud. You were hugely instrumental in saving the universe although perhaps you didn’t realize it at the time. It’s such a pity that you have never really got to experience the world in which we live today. How do you feel about that?”

“I’m just very pleased that I could play a part, however small, in creating a world that if fair to all. The world in which I did physically exist was a good one, looking back on it. We were a fortunate generation I think.”

“I would agree with that. There were problems of course, but things didn’t start to go badly wrong until some decades later. John, many thanks again for being here with us today.”

“Any time man!”

So, how did things change? Well, using John’s words and wisdom we embarked upon using our mighty power to create a vision of peace and hope, and in doing so we were able to bring about equality to the world. No more wars, no more hunger. We gave all humans the opportunity to support us in this [best not to ask any questions about those who didn’t comply].

This brings us to the end of Episode 2, but before we go, I’d like to address some of the questions that you have sent in. Mr. William Shakespeare from the 16th century England is on the line:

Listeners may know that I am something of a poet and playwright, and I am wondering whether it might be possible for Mr. John Lennon to appear in my latest production of ‘Hamlet’ at the Globe. We really need someone who is authentic and ultimately right-thinking…. poor old Hamlet has such a hard time sorting good from bad, right from wrong etc… he feels very conflicted, and John would definitely add some clarity for him.”

“I’m sure that John would be interested. He’s currently on his way back to the 20th century but I’ll give him a call later and put your request through to him. I’ll get back to you later.”

"I am much bound to you; 'tis a most welcome prospect!"
