Adventure Fiction Mystery

So how the words, "it was a dark and stormy night", along with "skeletons in your closet" and then adding, "digging up the past, all sounds suspicious at best. They are phrases that may cause you to look guilty.

If this is meant to frighten you or make you afraid to step out of the house in broad daylight, then if you are guilty, and I am not saying you are, but as Columbo would, uh sir/ma'am I have just one more question to ask, then you are truly suspect and possibly guilty of that and who knows what else.

Family Histories are part of what makes us all suspect, and it gives room for the gossip mill to run amuck. or the rumors that were meant to be silenced with hush money and to be carried to our grave, all the more to be dug up even if there was a solemn oath in place and the moment sealed with your life being signed away in blood.

The deal with the devil will come back to haunt you as you know the devil will come collect what is due to him. The moment you think things are long forgotten or the past is left where it was offed, that's when it will come back to bite you in the ass. You do not want to admit, for things can be shared on death bed confessions, mentioned at the weekly confessional booth at the local catholic church to Father What's His Name, in hopes that this will never get out.

When you want to believe the client-lawyer will eliminate the deal you made and the past crimes committed that you did for extra money will be left buried in the time capsule from 1956, like the evidence that Jimmy Hoffa's long since decrepit, long decayed body, which has of to date, never been found, at least not that we know of.

It leaves us to wonder how far back those skeletons were in the closet before someone found a jawbone or a boney hand or skull. Or the shovel used to put in a new set of pipes for jacuzzi, had us hitting some old grave site that the neighborhood was built upon during some past short cuts in building cost, which disturbed the cemetery of long since dead people from 1889.

The idea that the very thing(s) you wish to keep buried or out of the line of sight, will not come back and haunt you like a poltergeist, or maybe a long dead criminal who was evil while alive and still wants what's owed him. The house that happens to sit on his grave could be part of your own family history, were someone who was a relation, was the one to gun him down in the middle of the street. The crime of the century was covered up with others blood, sweat and hush money.

"What if the one who is being made to be forgotten is the one who was innocent?" "How would that look on your police records, if these very yesteryears news was to resurface, under non-related circumstances, to be revisited and to interfere with your running for a local office?"

The past would become worse than the one relative, who you love because they are family, but really cannot stand the sight of them, who annoys you and picks you out of all the other relatives who are there, but they are eyeballing you.

You feel as though something meant to drown with the dead body in the footlocker, was supposed to take with it all the bad news of the not so nice stories that no one wants to speak about, especially by Aunt Bertha, and for good reason. It would tarnish the reputation of your family's image on the outside and dreg up the past that was not so pristine and clean.

"What if the beginning of your story started with, "It was a dark storm night". and followed with a tale of greed, murder, eyewitnesses being killed off, either then or now, the local sheriff local judge, local lawyer, half the townspeople all guilty of the crime, which led to the deaths of each, like the game Clue.

The guilty parties are all not willing to share for fear of being exposed and made to pay for something committed many decades ago, unless they are dead before full sentencing can be placed on each at a later time. Murder has not statute of limitations. One generations mistake can hinder the progress and success of many from moving forward. It can become the scar wounds that reopen and rehash some form of vengeance or vendetta long since concealed and long since thought buried.

The things of the past have a way of affecting the present, which in turn changes the direction the future is heading, or was heading. It can make most choose not to divulge that which is more painful when brought to memory and can do more harm than good. It can become part of the family landscape by marring the sky with bloody colors instead of its bright blues and crystal-clear scene with the sun shining on a new day.

The moment this evidence becomes public then your life goes topsy-turvy, turning the pleasantry into a moment of uh oh and no you don't. It brings into question all the matters of your family history and leaves you with more question than answers.

The past of yesterday will leave you wondering how much you hear with how much you know, with how much is fact and what can be damaging in a literal sense of the word. What can cause your children to be less popular, and more being teased and hounded by the once friends who no longer know your children as before.

It can start with the whispers of things that may or may not be. It will have you being shunned from the community and maybe cause you to move or leave suddenly. It with the ones who started digging, with the investigation into your closets and the ones who start any story with, "It was a dark and stormy night"., that will bring about the most damaging moments which will leave you with the gun in your hand and a perfectly typed suicide note.

The last things you will hear, is the loud bang as the bullet exits the chamber and explodes inside your head, removing parts of your brain matter.
