Regina was a bond woman. She lived most of her adult life held captive by her wounds, her trauma, her hurt, pain, bitterness that she felt for having been abandoned, rejected, betrayed by the very people that should have loved, honored and protected her. She did have some connection to her maker.
In fact, every day, just about, you would find this woman on her knees begging God to change the very people that caused her so much pain. Until one day, something changed.
Regina had been on a retreat. Taking a sabbatical from her busy life. Her grandmother Ruby had loaned her the keys to her small country cottage in Pucket, MS.
Regina chose to spend most of her days sitting on the front porch, Bible in one hand, pen and paper in the other, longing for the Lord to speak to her heart in a new and profound way.
One morning, while it was thundering and lightening, Regina knew another day spent on her grandmother's porch was nnot it the cards for her. She had to find another way to pass the time between meals.
Regina decided to go exploring through her Grandmother Ruby's closets and dusty old drawers. Much to her surprise she found a family jewel, not a jewel in the way one might refer to an object as such, but the type of treasure the Lord mentions in His Word. The kind that moths and rust could never destroy. Even if this very object got ruined with age. Allow me to explain what I mean by that.
Regina came across her Dad's Baby Book. The book mama's write in after they give birth to a child. It had mentions of her dad's first word, first step, first haircut, trip to the zoo, you name it, Even the first time he had pizza in the Big Apple!
What touched Regina's heart the most, was what was written in the inside of the front cover of the book. Although the writing was slightly faded, and the pages had turned a yellowish hue, she can still make out the words.
The words read something like this," Dear God, please bless my son Jack in his goings and coming all the days of his life. But, do not just do that, bless the woman that he chooses to marry. Bless the children he has all the days of their life."
Regina was so intrigued. She read on, "When my darling grandchildren are all grown up and have children of their own, bless my great-grandchildren all the days of their lives. Then, do not stop there, I ask a blessing over the lives over my great grandchildren's children"
"For you have promised in your Most Holy Word starting from the first Book of Genesis 17:7 "And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you, and your descendants after you," "How beautiful is such a promise!
The hardness of Regina's heart began to soften right there in her grandmother's spare room, as she knelt beside the opened wooded chest with the baby book in hand. Then, Regina continued to read further.
Her late grandmother Ruby wrote specific things that she wanted God to bless all of her children, and children's children, and their children, and their children. The words she written out are actually in the Holy Bible. It goes like this: " Lord Bless you, and keep you, make his face shine upon you, be gracious to you, let Him turn His face towards you, and give you peace." Amen.... WOW the word Peace was not just read, it washed over her like a fresh rain! It healed her in ways that no other word ever had done before or probably could.
At that very moment, sitting there, Regina knew that she knew that she knew, that she was not alone, nor will she ever be alone. God has got her! She felt the Lord Jesus' unconditional love and grace wrapping His arms around her and holding her.
Regina took that hand that held all her hurts and offenses she was carrying and gripping ever so tightly in the palm of her hand and just released its grip and her hand was returned to her, completely free of any of that pain she held ever so tightly too. Instead, her hand was free to worship Him, and she did right there in her grandmothers' den.
Regina was a changed woman! She was no longer bond by past trauma! She has been set free by the washing of the Living Word of God. The Bread that nourishes the soul in ways food never could even come close. The touch of the Savior had moved her in ways no man every was able to.
She no longer asked God to change them, for He had done such a miraculous work in her that nothing they had ever said or done or will ever say or do was ever able to have the type of affect it has always had on her or with her. God had made himself known to her in a real profound way, by giving Regina a fresh revelation of His Love for her.
Like I had mentioned earlier in the story, it's the type of treasure that the world cannot give you or take away, or that moths and rust could never be able to destroy. Beauty is fleeting, but the fear of the Lord shown on a woman is absolutely a God send and its a certain light that the world could never be able to manufacture. You either have it or you do not and can only get it through spiritual means.
Many call upon the name of the Lord for many different things, but this type of gift from Jesus through the Holy Spirit can only be given by His wanting you to have it and you desiring it and seeking knocking until He does. Amen, God Bless
