What if man ruled time?
There exists now, in this hour, in this minute, the same number of hours in a day as did at the beginning of the world. Measuring time was not so important in the beginning. The rise and fall of the sun was enough. Lifeforms that lived then did not care about when things got done. They cared only that there was food and water, shelter and peace. But then, the humans came, and they had other ideas. Slowly, the humans decided on what was important for them to measure.
When humans say they don't have the time or they ran out of time, it's not because time has the ability to take any sort of action. Saying these things moves the responsibility for human actions from humans to a nonentity. Time hasn't changed. Humans, however, have changed a great deal. They allowed time to rule everything in their lives. They've let their own creation (time) take over their lives so completely that they've lost what they held dear. They have lost their center, their core, and their creativity, and they lost it to time.
Time was created by man with the intended purpose of being a device to manage the things they felt they needed to get done. It was not created to be the master over the lives of man. That job belongs to God, or it should've belonged to God, but man took the job away from God and gave it to time. Not a believer? Even if you do not believe in God, I think we can agree that man should not have given control of their days to something so greedy as time.
I can tell that you don't understand. Allow me to put it this way: time is very much like a virus. When referring to time, there is no such thing as a little bit of power. Once you have given time what you perceive as a little bit of power, time will and in most cases, has already taken complete power. Even your thought processes are owned by time. Humans used to do things with purpose and intention. They would see a problem, and they would work on it until they saw a solution. Now, they set an amount of time, and if the solution to whatever problem doesn't come in that amount of time, the problem is shelved, or a partial, halfhearted solution is formed. Quality has lost meaning because of time's control over man.
The latest evidence of time's control is the repackaging of human lives and the sale of these lives to various diseases. Diseases so dangerous that they impact not only the physical man but the mental state of man as well.
To no avail, some of the human population is trying to halt or slow time and take back what was lost. Take back control of their lives. This desire to regain control has caused a great deal of stress and anxiety in humans. Don't believe me? Don't see it that way? Well, just look at your world. It's full of books on how to combat stress and anxiety. There are multiple doctors and scientists researching ways to deal with these problems. Everything from pills to meditation devices to classes and apps has been developed to address the damage that time has caused.
The sad thing is that no one is searching for a way to completely rid themselves of these burdens of time. It has been widely accepted and agreed upon as fact that there is no way to completely expunge the effects of stress and anxiety from the lives of humans. Only ways to learn to live with the impact that time has unleashed in your world are being developed. Like many viruses, man has given up. I assure you, time has only become stronger.
Who am I, you ask?
It's difficult to explain who or what I am to you. There isn't a visual reference of me...not really...not one that you, in your present state, would be able to access. Hmm, think of me as a type of organic universal neurotransmitter. A small part of the human brain that is awakened only when the noise that is caused by time is quieted enough for me to be heard. Basically, I carry information to various places in the unconscious mind for humans to consider once conscious thought is regained.
Why have you not heard from me before now, you ask? That's an easy question to answer; you have. At those times when you've been able to get to the deep level of sleep required to hear me, when you woke, you quickly forgot what I was saying, or you brushed me off as not something you felt was important enough to be given; to put it in your words, 'the time of day'.
Why are you hearing me now? Why are we clearly conversing now?
(A nurse came into the room, made adjustments, and left, but you didn't notice.)
That's very interesting. I hadn't thought about it until you asked. You're "hearing" me now, because you see, you're in a stress-induced coma. And, quite frankly, if you don't hear me now...very shortly, you'll be dead in the human world.
While you were deep in this coma, you thought time had stopped. It didn't. You thought this because your coma-brain doesn't think about time the way your conscious brain does. What you call time doesn't even pause. Because the actions that you were doing stopped, you thought time had stopped. Time, while you are in the coma, passes at the same rate as it did before entering your current state.
How is that possible? How can time move when you are not?
Honestly? The hubris of humans. If I had a head, I'd shake it.
Once the universe was created, the Earth and the sun were in the same relationship as they are now. Time, as you think of it. did not exist. The rising and falling of the sun go on. If it didn't, the healing process would stop, life would stop. The time that humans created is more a tracking of the space between sunup and sundown. Of course, man overcomplicated it by using it to gauge the passing of their years.
I see it as strange that you created time, but most humans don't know when they gave it power. Time was created over 4000 of your years ago. In the beginning, man didn't understand the danger in giving so much power to something over which they would have no control.
I'm here to deliver this warning because you will survive this coma. When you come out of it, you'll have a small chance to right some wrongs. In your capacity as an internationally known, well-read author, you have a voice. Help yourself, then help your fellow man understand and take back some of what life was supposed to be. You can do it. Humans can become what they were meant to be if they learn to rule time rather than the reverse. They have to focus on what is important and forget about measuring the time it takes to get there.
Where am I going, you ask?
I'm not leaving. You're waking up, and the blanket that was shrouding conscious thought is unraveling. Please, as you wake, try to hold onto what I've said and fight against the power you've given time.
Good luck.
The hospital room was suddenly alive with activity. The first thought of this patient? How long had he been in the coma? Strange, just as that thought passed through his brain, there was a moment of intense clarity. The first words he said, you may wonder? “I control my brain, I control my actions. This virus won't win”.
