Teleporting

The instructions that come with teleporting deal with our fears and the people teleporting before us have already gone through all this. I have the instructions somewhere, but I can’t stop in mid-teleport to read the instructions. I just trust and think of the place I want to be and go for it. I’ve heard of mistakes people have made.

Teleporting has many problems if I stop and think about it, but I have been given the power to avoid them. I began by moving a small amount, say across a room. As my confidence builds up I have moved greater distances and have allowed for walls that don’t allow me to see where I’m going. Just have to think of my destination and I’m there. It’s probably best not to concentrate too much on travel brochures that show pictures of lovely places. I have been teleporting enough now to have confidence that all the potential problems have been solved.

It was then that I saw the distressed girl. She was tall and thin with long blond hair. The blood stains on her clothing showed that she was in a bad place. I don’t know where she was or why she was covered in blood. I just thought of her and there I was with her. We cannot always think of only nice places where we want to go and what luggage to take with us. This is why I found myself in the front passenger seat of her car. I was looking through the windscreen at a great void in front of us. The void seemed to get wider as the car tilted further encouraged by the extra weight of the teleported person. The girl in the car was not phased by the impending precariousness. I wrapped my arm round her and thought really hard to get away from it. My thoughts were focused on the dark gap widening in front of us and this suddenly took us forward into the nothingness. We were both falling like a pair of free flowing doves. I thought immediately of somewhere nice and above all safe. This did the trick and the love lady and I landed out side of a hospital emergency door. I placed my collected companion safely down on a hospital gurney and started shouting for help. I must confess that the pleas for help were as much for me as for my passenger. A team of people appeared from the hospital and took over from my nervousness and whisked the patient away to attend to her obvious wounds. Standing alone a still shaking from my dramatic rescue activity I realized that I was still in my dressing gown and little else. I wrapped the gown firmly around me and thought hard of my bedroom. Then there I was safe at home still shaking from my brief jaunt into nothingness. I quickly put some clothes on, and sat down with a large glass of whisky. The presence of clothes and whiskey settled my shaking and I thought not in a teleporting way of the drama I had been through.

With my whisky finished I thought I need to find out about the girl I saved. I thought again of the hospital and its busy doors and there I was again. The sun was shining and the name of the hospital was emblazoned above the doors meant nothing to except that I had gone far away I turned and walked into the hospital where I had brought my captured dove. Fortunately, the was an enquiry desk as you would expect just inside the doors. I asked where I would find the woman I had brought. I wasn’t able to say, who I was because I hadn’t left my name but the arrival of the injured girl and the fact that she had been whisked away for treatment was remembered.

Wasn’t remembered because the enquiry team had written down the she was delivered by a man in his dressing gown.

“That was me” I said.

The attendant looked over her desk and down and my legs.

“No, the man who brought her was wearing a dressing gown. You are fully dressed.”

“I know, I skipped home to change into something more seemly before I came to ask about her.”

“Who is she?”

Again, I could not answer because I did not know who she was.

“You are sure that you weren’t wearing a dressing gown earlier?”

I did not want to confuse the lady so I told her I was wearing a coat that may have looked a bit like a dressing gown. I left it at that.

I thought about saying that I teleported to the patient and again to the hospital but that brings in a whole new kettle of fish.

“I’m sorry my coat looks a bit like a dressing gown, but is was just a few minutes ago that I brought her in.”

“Well I’m sorry I thought the coat was a dressing gown. We do have a recent admission whose name appears to be Nora Storman. It looks as if she had been in a car accident.”

“That will be her. How is she, where is she?”

“She is still in the initial stages of treatment, but her wounds are not that serious. She should be out of the treatment room in a few minutes. If you want to go to the emergency-waiting room, 1ER, you’ll see her when she comes out”.

“Thanks very much. Sorry about the raincoat that looks like a dressing gown.”

“That’s alright. You can go to 1ER.”

As I turned round I was thinking that teleporting should be more widely known and not thought of as a last resort. I also thought that I should have some cards printed with my name and address on them so that I can leave one for when a patient wakes up. I could put the word “Teleporter” above my name if that was going to be simpler. Probably not as it would lead to more complicated explanations. Just the name and address.

This did not answer any of the questions I had. Why was I able to get to the accident so quickly. How did I get her out of the car and why did I take her to a hospital so far away.

I answered these questions to Nora who seemed to accept my explanation quite easily. Maybe if I said I beamed down from a flying saucer. Nora would still be happy. These questions from the doctor got the same responses but he was more skeptical than his patient. Eventually he put me down as a practical joker and further questions would not explain things and more. He walked away from me shaking his head.
