The Not-So-Good Kitty Next Door
I like going outside. Not like most cats. I love my morning stretches in the sunlight and laying on the top of the fence, admiring all the fancy cars passing on the road (and hearing phone call gossip with my excellent hearing). But this week in Goodwill Street, I have seen a strange, black cat outside at night. He has green eyes, but in the moonlight, they shine red. That scares me, so it does not make me enjoy the outside as much. It even looked at me with its red eyes once! That made me scramble back inside with a little wet trail behind me. This is my, and I say my documentation of the sinister black kitty next door. So, Copycat; you better not say this is yours.
Monday:
9:14am: I wake up. I do morning stretches. I go back inside; eat food, drink milk. I love milk. I go to litterbox and… you know where this goes. Anyways, I go on the couch, looking outside. Mum walks to couch. She doesn’t sit down, but still gives me scratchies. She goes back to her room to get ready. Daisy and Jailyn come to couch and scratch me. They sit down this time. I start to smell familiar aroma. I see Dad coming out of bathroom. Kids block their nose. I hiss at Dad.
“It’s not that bad” Dad says.
“Go outside and think about what you did!” Jailyn and Daisy say in unison.
“Kids, let’s go to school.” Mum says.
They leave house.
12:39pm: I scratch at my place on couch. I get bored and go outside. I do parkour to get to the top of the fence. I hear a woman on the phone. She has umbrella. Fancy, black umbrella. But it’s sunny? People are weird. I hear her talking to a guy called Vladmir. I don’t like that name. I climb down from fence, but then I see… black kitty. I see him through the hole in the fence. I walk towards hole in the fence. I want to confront this evil cat. But he runs away and climbs to the top of the fence. I climb too and run carefully along the top, all the way to him. Then, he jumps back into his backyard. Sadly, I’m not good on my feet. I observe the backyard.
Items: 4x cat toys, 6x stones, 6x flowers, 5x candles. Candles, stones, and flowers are placed in a neat circle. Cat toys are scattered. Why are the objects in a circle? Well, I guess if I go in the backyard to investigate it’s trespassing… and I’m a good kitty so I have stopped my investigation.
5:28pm: I don’t have any food. I am starving. When are Mum and Dad home? I suddenly hear the familiar sound of a Mercedes pull up into the driveway. Yay! Mum and Dad will give me food. I run to my food bowl and practice my puppy eyes. Though, I should call them kitty eyes. I hear the keys jingle and jangle. I see the door handle turn and my family walks through the door. They set down their stuff. Mum walks to me. I do kitty eyes and pace around my food bowl.
“Are you hungry, Hufflepoof?” Mum says.
I wait at the food bowl, pawing at it.
Mum walks to the pantry and grabs some cat food. Goldfish! My favourite. She pours it into the bowl. I dig in.
9:40pm: Everyone is asleep. Except for me. I wonder what black cat is doing. I go outside and look through the hole in the fence. Black cat is present. With a lady. Is that its Mum? They are on either side of the flowers, stones, and candles. The candles are bright. The flowers are lit up by the light of the candles. Suddenly, the stones start to shake, the flowers spin in circles, the candles float! Is this a magic show? Where’s the bunny? The black kitty meows something. The woman chants. This is all feeling very creepy. The fur on my back stands up. The black cat looks at me, his green eyes turning bright red. Very bright red. He hisses. I hiss back, that’s what brave kitties do. I keep watching, I wonder if this is black cat magic. The black cat keeps looking at me. His staring is giving me the kitty-jeebies. At this stage, it’s getting too creepy. I go back inside.
10:01pm: That was scary. What an eventful Monday. I am sleeping with Mum and Dad. Living room is too scary. Goodnight.
Tuesday:
5:32am: Day two of documentation. I woke up from nightmare about the kitty. I ignore it and forget about it. I go out of Mum and Dad’s bed and go outside. The sky is faded blue; I can see faint sunlight coming from the west. I leap to the top of the fence. I admire the street below. I look to my left and see… the black cat! Looking straight at me. I hiss. He hisses. I hiss more. He spits. I walk over to him. I’m going to ask his name.
“Hi, mischievous black cat. I would like to know your name.” I meow.
“No.” He hisses.
“I will give you Goldfish.” I purr to him.
“Fine, it’s Artemis.” He meows annoyedly.
“Okay. I’m Hufflepoof.” I meow back.
“Okay, go away.” He hisses less aggressively.
“B-but this is my spot! I’ve been here since the start.” I hiss.
He looks at me menacingly with his green eyes. They almost look red again. But I’m not moving. I walk back to my spot on the fence, glancing at Artemis now and then. I finally get bored and prance back down to my backyard. I go back inside.
7:07pm: I saw the black cat magic again. Artemis looked at me. I went through the hole in the fence to his backyard. The old lady looked at me. I instantly ran back. Maybe I should bring cat toy as protection next time. Yeah, I’ll do that.
P.S – I did my morning stretches, ate, drank, slept, and scratched at couch. Not a very productive day. I’m going to sleep so I can get things done tomorrow.
Wednesday:
9:41am: It’s raining today. Maybe I won’t be as productive. I hate rain with all my heart. Every drop is an attack. But I’m a persevering kitty. I will not give up that easily! I gather all my courage and… nevermind! Lightning has been spotted. I’ll get back to you.
2:16pm: Rain has reduced to sprinkle. Lightning has ceased. I see a rainbow. Rainbows are a good sign. I gather all my courage again and go outside. I run like the wind, as fast as Dad’s wind flies through the house. I make it to cubby house. My paws have gotten muddy, but so far, my fur isn’t drenched… yet. I wait for a few minutes, catching my breath. Suddenly, I see spider! I eat it. Scrumptious meal. Spiders give me stamina. Purrfect for my mission. I take a deep breath, and run again. I do my parkour to get to the top of the fence. I look over and... no sign of Artemis. My mission is not accomplished. Sad times. I climb back down and walk toward my home. I glance through hole in the fence and see Artemis! He quickly runs back inside to his house. I run after him. I don’t go in his house, but into his backyard. The stones, flowers and candles are removed. It’s replaced with a big, red circle painted on the grass. I walk over to it, and get kitty-jeebies. I go back to my house.
10:22pm: I am curious about Artemis. I go outside into the frontyard. I walk towards bin. I see Artemis. His eyes glow red. I snarl at him. He snarls back as he circles me. I feel afraid, but I stand my ground. I spit at him. He snarls again. His eyes still glow red. Suddenly, I hear the front door open. Artemis is still staring at me. Then, the old lady comes out! She has a witch’s hat and a long, skinny, bony nose. She looks as old as Santa. Except, she’s evil (I’m guessing). She looks as if she’s top on the naughty list.
“Artemis, have you found a new kitty for us?” The old witch said. Artemis meowed at her.
“Lovely job, sweetie.” She spoke.
No! I belong in this house! I ran back to the house, but before I could, the old lady grabbed me by my tail! Talk about an invasion of privacy. I squealed, hoping my family would hear me. Nothing. I was going to be stuck in the witch’s house for who knows how long!
Thursday:
5:24am: I have not been able to fall asleep into my catnap. So, the whole time, I’ve been planning my escape. First, I will join the black cat magic. Then, I will pretend I’m apart of it, and then run through the hole in the fence. Purrfect plan! I’ll see you tonight.
8:56pm: I am joining the black cat magic. The candles float, flowers turn, and stones wriggle. Just as the woman chants, and Artemis purrs, I run through the hole in the fence! “Artemis, get the kitty!” The old lady said. Artemis ran after me; he snarled and threw paws at my tail. I ran back to my house, and ran through Tiggy’s doggy door. Artemis stops at the door and looks as if he is contemplating whether to come inside or stay out. He gives me one last snarl and runs back to his yard. My escape plan was successful! I also know to not go outside at night without my owners now.
Through my documentation of Artemis, I learned that he is rather stubborn. He likes to act mysterious, and he likes to claw at kitties tails. I liked this catventure, but I hope that Artemis and his owner move out soon; and I hope a new nice, kind, and non-evil-magic family move in there. These past 4 days, I didn’t even find out the owner’s name. But that’s a catventure for another day.
