You Probably Slam your Computer

Adventure American Friendship

Written in response to: "Write from the POV of someone whose reputation doesn't match the truth. " as part of Two Sides to Every Story with Emily Martin.

At some point during the summer in a city, I used to walk on different path and full of uncertainty. I afraid if the water still fills the tank and increase the bills to pay. Afraid of being considered less of a man. My biggest dream is living alone in an empty house, with some jobs from inside the house so I don't need to meet anybody. Probably just get to a drink house with some warm water in it, running on any place unless I still can find a way to get back home.

"You keep sitting there all day long and you will eat the whole air," It's Oliver, my friend since 5 and seems never grows any perspective since that age. Bad things happened to him countless times, and he seems forget any of it, and still can see the whole sky clearly. "Ahh here you are. Come sit here, you freckles," he has some freckles and crooked teeth, and looks a little diabetic face.

"You bring your drinks on your own?" I ask him that everyday even though I already know it. "Ahh yeah, brew it with the same machince I stole from him," still the same answer without any clarification.

I order some ices on a glass, so I can touch it with my palms just to get off my nerves.

"Glad you can make it here before 10," Oliver knows I have a hard time just to get off my bed and opens the door to the outside, everything feels as a threat. But once I touch the ice, everything be better with me.

"Let's get some screen time, we don't see any of it lately," he just say it like we don't watch the screen for three months while it just hasn't done in one week. "Maybe just for this time, I'd like to feel my butt over the staircase again," I make a sensible humor while I just mean about the seat is quite soft and made me almost sleepy most of the time. "It's on you," I talk passively. "What's on me?" Oliver pretends to be confused. "The movie bills, of course," I try to repeat the words as I already talk about it several days before. "Ohh yeah, I forgot." We go to the nearest and cheapest movie theater inside a broken mall where we get the first ticket since we are very little. It gets me again, the old memory that keeps haunting me. What if I turn to a man I don't want to be? Or what if it's already happen? Oliver touches my shoulder, try to keep me warm while I don't talk about it, but it seems he knows what's inside my head. We walk across the river and trees, and the sun still as bright as before. I try to be observant and grateful, at least to fill my brain with light stuff. "I'd like extraterrestrial movie," I talk to him. "Science fiction again? Alright, that's good. Don't want to be as dumb as our friends at school." We surely don't want to be as stereotypical as our peers, we don't think it's wise enough to follow the rules, while we already discover all about us already. And uniquely, or maybe we already knowing it, nothing ever matters. And people still respect us without giving them some treats or quiz answers. But there is one guy we want to give something to swallow, "Warren Lorraine". Sure his name looks feminime, but legends say his dad is half drunk while try to giving his name. Even his unknown sister has a street name, "17th bridge South Carolina".

People said he barely break a sweat while strangle our two buddies on high school, took their lunchbox, and some pennies on them. Ohh, I forgot, the movie just started. "Let me buy it," I won't let his kindness overflow, I buy the popcorn by myself, for him too. Our job as a handwriter keeps overflow during this month, everyone gets lazy to write nowadays. It's about the science fiction, about a man with a name I don't want to tell, finally recieve a payletter from a bike dealer he dealt with, and somehow he's able to fake it only to change the last balance. "What a great movie," Oliver said it, I know he thinks about the payletter as some kind of mcdonalds stroke. I obsess over the nature and the whole universe, sometimes I think it's different earth with the one we already have. "Let's get to know this guy, Warren," I really fascinate about this man, what the hell is he anyway. We already know the street he lives in, we just need to follow the roadmap. "I barely have focus on my eyes lately, keep an eye of anyone, we probably get tailed," I already being suspicious aroun 3 pm everyday.

With half-melted icebox I bring from the broken cinema, I grip it tightly just to keep my heart warm.

Oliver walks as he pretend we just want to buy some kittens on the road. The sun nearly at it's dawn, my favorite time to look at the sky and see everything falls apart in a good sense. I don't realize how many words I already repeat in my mind, or even the roadmap itself we get into. "So this guy, Warren. What he really looks like?" Oliver asks me like he's already beat several people one by one on every houses they living in.

"Some people said he's around 7ft and a half, round shoulders and 4 cm firearms, I said it while talking to my hand as if I write something on it. "You mean forearms?" he asked me. "Yeah, that's what I meant. We finally arrive, a house looks empty with two narrow windows side to the left. More like a giant house dog. Drunkards must be the ones who built it. "Knock, knock," Oliver touches the door several times. I wait outside. I have a strange feeling. No, it's not about how scary he looks. But, what if this guy is a girl. No way, it's probably just a dumb idea inside of me. "Knock, knock," now I'm the one who knocks it. "It seems the house is empty," I said.

"Probably he's afraid of you, Anthony." He likes to makes me look like a giant werewolf, while I'm just a lone ranger for Christ sake. "Let just open the door," I just open the door, I don't want to waste my time, afraid there are some homework I need to work on. The doors open easily, it seems no one even want to smell the house, or even locks it. There is a table and chairs, and some other furnitures. "Hello anyone here?" I asks him with bored voice. "Hi, you guys late," a female voice appears. "Susan? What are you doing here?" It's cleary just our classmate, nothing more. It must be the boring story I even arrange in my mind. "No way, but where is this guy Warren?" Oliver asks her, as he really wants to meet him. "Well I just try to make you guys being opened," Susan says it while I touch my own forehead. "Then about the description, what are we get ourselves into? If it just a prank then why everyone gets it?" I try to make some logic out of it. "Well I know you guys are quite authentic, and to prove you already mean it and not just being a lone person, something must be figure it out." "What? So this is the end?" Oliver asks me. "Is it?" I confused.
