Today is April 31, and in our world that is a day. I don't know what is happening . All I know is that the adults did something they shouldn't have. Now it's angry. They're angry. I have to get out. Or I'll burn down along with this place. I have to find Eclipse. She is the only way I will make it out of here alive. And the only way I will find out what happened. If only they would stop for a moment so I can find my dragon. The ceiling above me is about to collapse. The door is too far away. I know I won't make it out in time. Even the hole in the wall I came through is too far away. I close my eyes, accepting the inevitable.
I hear another blast. I can feel it too. But this blast was WAY closer than before. Suddenly, I feel claws wrap around me. I'm against something. The claws are still holding me tight. We start to spin in rapid circles, flying forward, as something wraps around me. I don't know why I haven't opened my eyes yet. Probably because I was awestruck by the fact that I hadn't died yet, or because we were going so fast that my eyes wouldn’t open. Finally, I am set back down again. I open my eyes, relieved to see my dragon, and my best and only friend, sitting in front of me.
She saved my life, ... again. I say thanks to let her know I am very grateful. The look on her face is desperate. She knows what they did to anger her family and her flight of dragons. Or, in other words, her village of dragons. And why they are attacking us. I quickly jump into her saddle, and Eclipse flies in the direction of her village. As we fly, my brunette hair flaps behind me in a tight braid. We land, but not where I thought we would.
We land in the hatchery. The hatchery that is now EMPTY! Night Furies, Light Furies, and Night Lights alike are angry or panicking. Or both. And over half the dragons are gone, attacking the school. The mix of emotions is unexplainable. I jumped off my Night Light and went to the nests. The grief. It can’t be put into words. I drop to my knees. They're all gone. All of them. Every single egg. Eclipse comes up behind me, nudging me in a way that says, “ I know me too.” I turn to look at her. She is trying to show me something. I get up to follow her.
Eclipse has found a path of footprints! But not dragon footprints, boot prints! From a HUMAN! I don’t think I could ever feel angrier at my own race in my life! Eclipse has an excellent sense of smell. I eagerly tell her, “Eclipse find them,” as I get back into the saddle, and we take off.
It was clear. There was one thing she had to do. That was to find the eggs, return them to their parents, and punish the people who took them. This had just become personal because Eclipse had 3 eggs in that hatchery. This explains why she was so worried after she had saved me.
Using her awesome sense of smell, they rapidly flew through the forest, searching for any clues. But stops with a shocking realization that there were still dragons in the school. Eclipse understands and starts flying back to the school. Having basically grown up in the dragon village, I knew I was the only person they would reason with.
Flying straight up to Cove, the leader of the group, I yell, “Stop! This won’t change anything! And you know it!” Having finally caught his attention, I continue, “This only hurts us both. You aren’t only killing humans but dragons, too. There are dragons in that building, dying as we speak. You should help them out, both humans and dragons. I know that humans stole your eggs, but I promise I will return the eggs, and the thief will be punished.”
Cove then gives me a sceptical look as if he didn’t know if he could completely trust me. I reassured him with the facts about Eclipse’s eggs. He nodded his head and told the other Furies to help move the debris and start healing both injured dragons and humans.
Once everyone was helping each other, Eclipse and I left to go back to the village to get the scent of the thieves again. It still hurt both of their hearts to see the empty hatchery. After sniffing the nests and footprints, Eclipse had gotten the scents of the thieves and started flying. They had to go faster now because they had lost time while solving the other issue.
After a few minutes of flying through the forest, they came across a recently deserted building. After some searching, it was clear that the eggs and the thieves had recently been here. The scent was getting stronger, and they were so close to finding the eggs that I could almost feel it! We started flying again, both of our adrenaline levels rising. Then I spotted someone. I patted Eclipse on the neck 2 times, which is our code for make us go invisible, and then we vanished out of sight. As we snuck up behind the thief, he turned around, and I was in pure shock.
The thief was my DAD! Eclipse could feel my shock and started to back up. Then she stepped on a twig. My heart was already pounding, but that just made it triple in speed. My dad whirled around, and Eclipses’ invisibility dropped. My dad's eyes widened as he saw me. An egg in his hand. I cover my mouth with my hand, and my dad says, “Wait, it’s not what you think!” Suddenly, my anger started rushing in, and I yelled, “What is wrong with you! Who does that! There is NO good reason for this!”
“Wait! Let me explain,” my dad cuts me off. “These dragons have taken up your entire life. Since you were a little girl, these things have been the only thing you cared about. I just wanted to have my little girl back.”
“Well thats not how you do that!” was my yelling response, “Eclipse, flare,” I said with blurred eyes. Then, Eclipse shot a plasma blast up into the air. Then, Eclipse pinned her riders dad down while she tied him up.
Soon, Cove and half of the other dragons came. They weren’t happy that the thief was my dad, so I was charged with the job of bringing him food and water while he served his time in The Pit. The Pit is like a prison in the dragon world. The eggs were returned to their families, and soon Eclipses' eggs hatched!
The three little baby dragons were the cutest things ever! And Eclipse is the best mom EVER! She is caring, sweet, kind, protective, and overall a great mom. But Eclipse isn’t the only new mom. Several new families were expanded during the next few weeks after the Battle of Fury. Soon, there were little baby dragons running all around the village.
But I am the only human who will ever witness it as far as she knows. She has been the only human allowed in the village her whole life, and for a long time before. And like I said, I basically grew up here. I babysit for the now-busy dragon parents and call that place my permanent home. I have my own house and will sleep at Eclipses nest sometimes too. This is my life now, and I like it that way. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me, Eclipse, her family, the other dragon families, and the village as a whole.
