Time Whizz

Jessica was at her desk working, when her co-worker Lisa comes to her and says "Lets go it's time, how much will you work".

Jessica says " No, I still got some work left it will take a while, why don’t you go ahead ?”.

Jessie says fine and suggests her to finish her work as quickly as possible as the snowfall may get worse. It was 6:15 and she was the last person in the office, as she waved her friend goodbye she notices the snowfall getting harsher, she thinks she better leave now itself but she was an intern at ‘Fallback systems’ and only been working for a week now and she didn’t want to seem incompetent on her first week, so she puts back her headphone and gets back to writing the code.

she finally finishes the code and notices that it’s already and 7:50, she packs her bag and as she heads out of her 35th-floor office see shes the blizzard getting worst. she checks her phone but it’s out of battery so she gets back to her desk to checks the news on her computer and she sees a news report stating that the blizzard has gotten worst and everyone is requested to stay indoors and not head out.

She’s stuck at the office all alone now with nowhere to go, she goes into the breakroom and buys a packet of chips and a soda from the vending machine and goes sits by the window and looks outside at the empty streets of the city with snow everywhere.

she finishes eating and looks around the empty room thinking what to do, as she walks across her huge office she passes by her boss’s office, it was a complete glass office, she looks through the glass and just puts all her wait on the door and door opens up and she falls headfirst into the room, she thinks the boss must have forgotten to lock the door, she sits on the luxurious sofa facing opposite to the desk, as she sits down she notices a whiskey bottle sitting on the table next to the sofa, she thinks she might as well make herself a drink. she pours a drink and takes a sip and moves around the office looking for cigarettes, she knew her boss was a smoker and he would have kept a packet somewhere here, she rummages through his desk drawer then she looks for it at his bookcase she finds a secret compartment in one of the drawers and she does find a pack as she takes it out she sees a key and the keychain which had “C” written over it, she wonders if its the room by the ladies washroom which is always locked? , she remembered Lisa saying that it was always locked and only the boss ever went inside and never took anybody else inside, and whenever anybody asked what’s in the room he would change the subject. she finishes her drink and pours another one and heads to check out the room.

she unlocks the door and enters the darkroom, she looks around for a switch and finds one, as the lights come up she notices that it is a really small room just the size of a walk-in wardrobe. she notices a big-screen computer in the front with a proper gaming chair, she goes sits on the chair and turns on the pc she thinks it might be where boss tests out the games and hopefully there will be something interesting in this PC, as the PC turns on the front camera turns on and facial recognition software scans her face and it gives out an avatar looking exactly like her, and a calm soothing voice says welcome Jessica Cuprin and a white screen comes up Silver bold wordings written on it which said ‘Time Whizz created by Mr.C and Jessica Cuprin " and her avatar right next to it waving happily. She’s a bit taken aback to see her face and her name coming up on it as a creator, she clearly doesn’t remember creating something like this, so she thinks this probably just the part of the game. then a message pops up on the screen asking her to wear her headset. as soon as the message pops up the drawer of the desk opens up and in there were silver shiny VR helmet at least it looked like one. she takes it out and puts it on and as soon as she pressed the ON button on the side and kept her hands on the chair she felt something cover her legs and hands.

Jessica stares at a blank space for a few seconds before she finds herself inside a white room sitting on a chair with a desk in front of her and there’s a door right opposite to her, through which a man dressed up in a white suit walks in but he’s not a real man just an avatar and looks at her surprisingly.

" Jessica, hello didn’t expect to see you here? ”

" Who are you, where am I? " she looks around and looks down at our own body to see that even she’s just pixels and it’s not her real body it’s the avatar she saw on the screen.

the man in the suit just watches her as if she’s an alien.

" Where did you come from?”he asks as he checks her out intriguingly.

“From Fallback Systems, is this some type of weird game? "

The man smiles and nods as if he realized something “Oh it’s more than that but I doubt you will believe anything I might tell you, but first, let me introduce myself I’m Mr. C and I think you’re right now just an employee at Fallback systems right? "

" Yes, I’m an intern there been working for a week now "

" We knew you would eventually find out about this or your boss would tell you soon after you gained his trust but you found it way sooner than we thought” he opens the door he just came through and signals her to come with him.

" I have something to show you and I’m sure you will be very thrilled " he leads her into a well lit long narrow corridor here and there you could look at some images of what looked like gaming characters. they get into the lift and Mr. C presses the 252nd floor on the lift and they start moving down from the 312th floor.

“312, are you serious, how many floors does this building have? " Jessica asks frantically.

Mr. C just smiles in a mischievous way and then the door opens to the 252nd floor and they walk into another well lit narrow corridor but this one had windows on both the side she looks at the right side to see a great view of dry sand mountains as she was enjoying the view suddenly something that looks like a car flys by, Jessica rubs her eyes to make sure she didn’t imagine that, she turns towards Mr. C to point that to him and suddenly she sees another car fly by outside the left window and what she sees outside this window blows her mind off. It wasn’t just some sand out there, there were rows filled with high-rise buildings and at least a dozen flying cars flying by, some buildings were taller than the one in which she was standing right now.

“Seriously where the hell am I,” she asks Mr. C but he had walked way ahead and she runs to catch up with him as she reaches him they enter a huge hall which looked like a busy floor of a really big office with people waiting around the reception and other people waiting for the lifts to head to their offices, majority of the people were regular people but there were a few pixels like herself and Mr.C

Mr.C then points to the series big portrait on the wall by the fountain, Jessica notices that it’s her photo on the third portrait below the portrait it was written

" What ?…….How ?” was the only thing Jessica could manage to say.

“Oh it was of old age, you were a pretty healthy woman but did have a lot of stress, running a company isn’t easy”.

“what?”Jessica asks again with a confused look on her face.

“That’s how you died, that’s what you wanted to know right?”

" I want to know what the hell is going on here " Jessica shouts.

“Oh, How silly of me I should explain you from the start, you’re currently in the year 2103 and this is the Head office of Fallback Systems, you and I together figured out how to travel through time and came up with ‘ Time Whizz’ that’s the reason our bodies are just pixels as only our mind that is our consciousness could move through time”.

" But I have never met you before how could we have created something as impossible and intricate as a time machine? " Jessica says still trying to take in whatever the hell was going here.

“We will meet very soon. But yeah we did figure it out and that’s why you can see a lot of people in their avatar in this office those are the people who traveled through time”

“But why was this ‘Time Whizz’ in our office? " questions Jessica.

“ That’s a long story why don’t we go to my cabin he says " as Jessica follows him suddenly she starts glitching and everything becomes blurry.

she feels someone shaking her, she gets up finds herself sitting on her own desk in front of the computer.

" Did you sleep here?” Lisa asks her. Jessica doesn’t answer she gets up and looks towards the green door near the washroom and notices its locked, she thinks it was probably just a dream and tells herself of course its a dream how could that be true then looks at Lisa and nods

“Yes, by the time I was leaving the blizzard had gotten worst and the news said every one to stay indoors”.

" Good thing you stayed but why don’t you head home and rest because you don’t look so well ”.

" Yeah I think I will just go home and sleep” she says as she picks up her bag and gets ready to leave when her boss comes up to them with another guy.

" Here’s our new intern Collin, Lisa I want you to show him what to do around here, Okay” and walks away without even waiting for Lisa’s reply.

Lisa introduces herself and tells him that Jessica is also one of the interns, he replies by saying

" Nice to meet you both and you can call me Mr.C”
