Oh Diddly Do

American Friendship Speculative

Written in response to: "Write a story where two characters share a moment of connection." as part of Lost, Then Found with A. Y. Chao.

So he went to the store and bought me a can of Pepsi, and then I said thank you, and then we sat down on the bench in the park, and we watched the birds eat the bread in the lake where they were fed the bread from the people that would throw it to them and some people walked by, some on scooters or bikes, and some had headphones and/or earbuds or were talking to each other loudly and happily, it was a nice spring day, and everyone was out. There were no fairs or festivals, but it was still a lively place, and a time in Park was just all that we had been needing after the long hard winter of cold and ice and we were finally able to breathe free the air that we could share. And show we care and then the rain came, first slowly and then a full downpour and the whole park was rained out but we grabbed our sodas and ran for shelter? The first place we found was a bus stop. But the rain kept going, then a rainbow came out when it stopped and we said, wow, that was like a flash flood and then everybody resumed to be happy then. I guess the weather dictates our moods, but so then we decided to go back home anyway. So we walked the long 10 blocks back home and then sat out front on the porch. And just talked to people walking by and some people, we knew. It had been 2 years since we moved here and we were finally situated and happy to be part of this bustling neighborhood where people were mostly friendly, a lot of loud engines of motorbikes going by and some cars, without mufflers, but And some people would idle with their cars for a while outside by our steps. But we knew it had nothing to do with us. So it didn't concern us and they would come and go, the families and we would just go on with our lives and 1 day, I said maybe we should take a trip to Saratoga. I said that I'm getting money on the first and he said, okay. And so then we took the bus up there and we had to make a stop, and switch buses, but we made it there. It was like a 3 hour trip and but then we got there and looked around at the nice things in the stores and we got coffee and then we walked around in the park up there and there was a lake and more ducks, but so we sat there and I brought my sketch pad and I drew some of the scenes near the lake with the ducks and the trees and the Sun and the clouds, and it was all together a very glorious day. And then it came time to take the bus back and we rode home and on the way back, we were sitting on the bus together and we just looked at each other and we just smiled and then we looked front face front again and then we got off the bus happily at our stop, near our home then I just said good night and we slept in our separate beds and Woke up in the morning happy.

The next day we took a walk and we went downtown. This time to see what shows were playing at the big arena. And we said, well, maybe we could go to the hockey game or something when that comes to our town. And he said, yeah, and then we went to a restaurant and got sandwiches the little Deli and it was nice. And we just walked along the river, downtown, Watched the speed boats go by and saw the construction they were doing and On the bridge down there and in fact, we decided to go home and get our bikes and ride across the river on the bike part of the lane that goes across the bridge and we found an old territory up on the hills across there, where there was a Lookout Point and we could see our own town from there. And we looked and he said, yeah, that is quite a massive town. And look at all the old buildings it's historic. And we were just thinking about that when someone we knew walked by and then his name was Matthew and then he came and sat with us, he knew my friend and then we all 3 sat there and talked and then we said we should probably go get something to eat, so we went to the little diner nearby and then sat there and another friend came by a female friend and we all just sat there and enjoyed each other's company. And then soon it was time to go home, the sun was setting, and we made our way.Although there was some a lot of potholes in the path and we stumbled and it was rocky , but we made our way back across the river than had to walk up the hill back home because we couldn't ride it with our bikes because it was too steep.

The next day we decided to visit my grandmother, who was in a town west from here and she had her sewing room going and told us how she made the wedding dress for her daughter, my aunt and my aunt was getting married and I was supposed to be in the wedding but they would not invite my friend so I decided not to do it. But then someone took my place who was my daughter, so everyone was happy, but they showed me pictures afterward.I am a rebel in my family. Not quite a typical family member, but I do okay.I'd have my own adventures in my life. And that's just the way it is.Everyone's separate entities, and we really don't have like bonds or ties to our parents or our family that are inseparable.I mean , we can do what we want we're our own people , you know. :)
